It's Thursday! That's, like, practically Friday and thus sounds like a good time for a lyrics quiz.

Simple scoring system: one point for every correct song-title. You can go for extra credit and add the artist if you want, but it will only gain you honour and glory. Please note: correct title. There is a link between all the songs in the quiz, I'm sure you'll work it out.

Responses from my stringent beta-testing and product-development team (or ChrisC, as he's also known) suggest the quiz has come out rather more difficult than intended, but we'll give it a whirl...

Yes, me too - I always knew that it was going to be tricky to actually answer the question, but I hoped people would at least think "oh, you know, that one that goes...". Sadly, for some "obvious" (YMMV) songs I tried to pick a not-totally obvious lyric, and seem to have succeeded a bit too well.

There's still some unanswered :( I reckon a quiz is a failure if it has any questions which no one answers. I was relying on you, phlebas and zotz to stop that happening. You've fished me out of trouble with #15, but the late 20s are still looking a bit bare...

Hmm, I started the poll but realised that while I love the feeling of matching the out-of-context lyric up to the song, I really dislike the matching of song to songname (though the theme here is obviously quite cute for that). I just don't think of songtitles much I guess but remember them by album and position and stuff. I have a similar issue with the titles of novels - I tend to skim read them once at the beginning of reading the book and then forget them.

And my conclusion is, I need to expand my regular ability to listen to music while paying attention and buy some more albums. There's a lot of people up there that I can't place a single song of theirs that I have heard and can reliably identify.
