Five and a half years ago, one of my favourite landmarks went away.

Yesterday, apparently, it came back.

I haven't yet seen it. I may have to go for a ceremonial drive along the M4 at the weekend.

Nice.
Now if we can just get "Only the ridiculous survive" similarly reinstated...

Your post title confused me - I was struggling to think of a landmark related to Kia-Ora!

Obscure but tangentially relevant thing: allegedly the music on the advert in question is a tweaked version of track five of Caramba's eponymous album, which has lyrics written mostly in a completely fictional language!

I am faintly aware that the title is a Kia-Ora advert-slogan ([livejournal.com profile] keris would never forgive me if I'd missed that) but I've never seen the advert... I mostly know the phrase "too orangey for crows" as the the lyric which follows "Iain. M. Banks" in The Booklovers, by The Divine Comedy.

Maybe youtube can furnish me with the ad...

It can... though be warned it's all a bit racial-stereotype-bingo by modern standards.

That's a great description of it!

You're thinking of a TV add for Guinness, from the late '70s (I think).
Man in park stops at wooden kiosk and asks for bottle of Guiness and bucket of water. Vendor explains that the Guiness is now kept in the fridge, so the water is not necessary. Man replies that in that case he'll just have the water, for Sam (large Dulux icon / English Sheepdog, who "don't like Guinness."

Nah, "It's just for me and my dog" is definitely from the Kia-Ora advert (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5LvLn9PWln8)! Trust [livejournal.com profile] keris, she's an expert on Kia-Ora.

And I wasn't taking much notice of guinness ads in the 70s :)

I thought it was going to be about the Crow Aptok graffito on the A40, which iirc [livejournal.com profile] venta has also posted about.

I think it was [livejournal.com profile] bopeepsheep who brought up Crow Aptok. I was complaining at the time about the disappearnace of the "Why do I still do this every single day?" graffito on the M40.

Aha, yes, that rings a distant bell.

Can I also put in a mention for the long graffito one used to see on the train into London, along the lines of "Work - sleep - TV - [etc] - one in ten goes mad, one in five cracks up"?
