Regular readers will know that ChrisC and I go to Glastonbury Festival every year. Except not this year, because   we didn't get tickets. Demand outstrips supply, and this time we didn't get lucky.

Today was the resale of unwanted coach-and-entry packages. I was in my office with a couple of browsers loading. ChrisC was in his, with a minor army of helpers (many of whom, like him, ought really to have been on a conference call). Anyway, Simon got lucky....

WE'RE GOING TO GLASTONBURY :)

(Of course, travelling on a coach means our new car will remain relentlessly grown up with zero festival passes and one National Trust parking permit.)

;) We'll be banging on the browsers on Sunday morning. (If we _do_ get tix, I have to commute back for a gig in London on Sat afternoon, so coach not even a little bit feasible...)

Good luck!

(A gig you are playing, or attending? If the latter, that's dedication :)

I was worried you'd be disappointed if you didn't get this year's write-up!

I would! I really enjoy reading it and feel I know how Glastonbury works... despite never having set foot there.

I seem to have left an important part of my brain somewhere in a field in Hampshire.

(Dammit, earworm.)

Could you just spin up a few thousand browsers in a Google/Amazon cloud somewhere for a few minutes, or have they got some sort of cleverness to stop that kind of thing?

Oh well done! We're trying for Sunday's re-sale and I've put feelers out for bar work too . . .

I don't know if they have cleverness to stop that.

The trouble, if you have thousands of EC2 instances doing your bidding, is what an instance should do when it successfully loads the booking page. It's difficult to write automated handling of a page you've very seen before! It's probably mildly difficult to get it to identify when it'd successfully loaded the booking page rather than the holding page, given that you won't knew what either looks like until the sale begins.

If it's just going to notify its master, then you have to be ready to take a notification, sign in to the correct instance (which has to have a headful browser, so no cheap Linux boxes) and deal with the payment before it all times out.

So not beyond plausible, but not trivial either!

Weirdly and for the first time in 18 years, I am going as well (I think). Of all things, to roadie for someone!

Well that is exciting and glamorous! Who are you roadie-ing for?

Be nice to catch up there if the stars align.

Friend's band - will let you know when they are announced. And yeah, maybe try and catch up, how hard can it be.

Ahahahah.

Playing, yes; the fair concerned specifically invited us back after we played there last year, which is awfully flattering, but last year it was the weekend _before_ Glastonbury ;)

Yay!
Won't be up there in time on Wednesday evening, I don't think. I'm not leaving until after work, and I need to locate [livejournal.com profile] davefish in a car park on the way!

BTW, if you are getting there Weds (which I assume you are) swing by the Greenpeace stage around 10pm for their opening thing, the Big Beat Junk Band. I, er, appear to have volunteered to bang rhythmically on bits of recycling (for which I kind of have form)

We're catching a 3pm coach from London (specifically from the O2, which is massively the wrong side of London if you live in Ealing...) so I sincerely hope to be there by then! We have to meet our imaginary friend at the Cider Bus at 9pm, but reckon we can stagger as far as Greenpeace for 10!

Hah, yeah, that's not exactly where you want to be starting from, is it...! At least the Cider Bus is now on site, it apparently broke down on the way...

You and 95% of the other people going ;) (Not me, I unfortunately can't drink it. But I have cans of prosecco ;))

You have cans. Of prosecco.

I really can't work out if I'm impressed or horrified :-)

I like fizzy wine and glass bottles are not possible.

I, er, imported it from Germany (it still only worked out around a pound a can). Stick with "horrified", I would ;)
