In the James Street Tavern last night with [livejournal.com profile] wimble, I headed up to the bar. I ordered a pint of whatever he was drinking, and a beer from the nice Noke brewery for myself:

"A pint of the Vicar's Daughter, please."

At which point a voice at the bar behind me said:

"... as Ripley said to the android bishop."

(Or, of course, it might have said:

"... as Ripley said to the android, Bishop.")

Nice :)

No, actually. It's that one Ingrid Thing sings about the guy who's "on for the landlord's daughter".

(Are you thinking of "Never mind, the lass she's fine, wor lass is good-hearted"?)

Ingrid Temple and yes, probably. The lasses in these Tyneside songs are virtually interchangeable.

Damn you both, now I have both of those songs in my head, and I only know half the words to both of them.

I think it's,
"Never mind, the lass she's kind, I kna she is good-hearted
She's a cast in her eye makes her look shy and I wish we never had parted
She's got a hump and she walks with a stick and she's always good to me
I'm fond of the lass that nane can pass, the lass doon on the quay."

"The first time that I met me love was dancing at the Bridge End
I tramped upon her gown and the gathers come away.
She said that I was clumsy, and I said that I was sorry
and most humbly begged her pardon, I was licked for what to say."

That must have been from the director's cut? Or half-cut, at least.
