That's tough. Questions:

1/ Any idea of how old it is - where did you hear this tune and when?

2/ Are the ascii characters representing pitch and duration (is `_-` is e-a-c-e, for instance)?

I should point out that I know what song it is, I'm asking because I'm interested in whether anyone followed the notation. So I'm not going to say anything in answer to 2.

I'm not very familair with the Chemical Brothers back catalogue, but I believe the song in question to be earlier rather than later.

That is about as dumb as playing charades and telling the audience the wrong number of words.

I've wracked my brain and the only one I can think of that "feels" like that notation is The Private Psychadelic Reel which is probably my favourite Bothers' track.

Eh ? That looks completely different! (For a start, the notes are going down, not up...)

I'm talking about the plinky-plonky noise that's present on and off throught the track. It sounds (to me) far more like what I wrote than what you wrote.

By the way, though my notation is approximately accurate in pitch and duration, it was far more about "feel".

I remember covering "graphical scores" in GCSE music. They're great. Usually obvious when you hear the music they represent, completely useless up til that point.

It's a five note sequence, but the third and fourth (after the two chimes) are slurred. However, there are definitely two notes there.

It sometimes sounds like two notes. But it still sounds more like what I wrote than what you wrote. To me.

Is it "crap shocking beats"? I mean "Block rocking beats"? As the only chemical brothers tune that springs to mind at the moment I thought it had to be worth a guess. And later when I think of the other one I'll post that too. :)
