It's Friday, and it's about 3 o'clock. It's time to go underneath the covers (with the lights out).

I always recommend listening to a cover version without knowing what or who it is, so click on the link before reading ahead...

That was Everclear covering Brown-eyed Girl, originally by Van Morrison.

I've never quite been able to decide whether I actually like the catchy jangle of Brown-eyed Girl, or not. I do, however, really like this slowed-down, lazy version. It seems much more suited to lounging around in long grass in the sunshine, besides stadia or otherwise.

Then again, I am quite a big fan of Everclear, and in particular the marvellous Songs from an American Movie Vol I from which this comes. Go on and have a listen to it - recommended representative tracks are AM Radio and Thrift Store Chair.

Ah, Van Morrison's version please.

And how can I put this delicately. If I'd had to guess, I'd have said the cover was by Bryan Adams.

Nowt wrong with a bit of Bryan Adams. In moderation :)

That is sort of terrible, and has put a huge grin on my face.

Heh, I liked that one! A reinterpretation which is both interesting and also reasonably pleasant to listen to.

I had no idea who it was -- Everclear are not much more than a name to me -- so I shall follow your rec and spotificate the whole thing. Here it is if anyone wants to do likewise.

He he....I knew i knew it from the shal la laaas at the begining, but it was only part way through the first verse singing along that i twigged.

Love the origional. This is nice, posibly in a Jonny Nash's I can see clearly kinda way. However singing along is like trying to sing with one of the crooners classics, too slow and you keep tripping over the words (try sing to perry como's white Christmas if you don't know what i mean).

I dislike both versions, so it was with some disappointment that I tentatively IDed the track on about the second "la". Sorry.

I guess there's something to be said for focussing on the irritatingly pointless lyrics rather that the irritatingly catchy plinky-plonkiness of the melody. It's worse than "jangly", REM is "jangly".
