I hear people talking about Twitter. I do not understand what it is. I distrust it inherently. Despite not knowing what it is. And despite - presumably - the ease with which I could find out what it is by typing "Twitter" into google I have apparently instead chosen to retain my ignorance.
However, thanks to the unutterably marvellous Lore Sjöberg I now know what Twitter is and I feel completely justified in maintaining my irrationally-adopted distrust. For, well, pretty much all the reasons he says, really. Except he said them better than I would have done.

Date: 2008-04-23 10:41 am (UTC)I think that many people have a little bit of a fantasy about being in a film about their own lives. Hence the need to tell someone, somewhere, about every last little sneeze, cup of coffee, conversation, etc. It's the only explanation I can come up with for why something like twitter is so popular. And yet twitter has virtually no content - it is fuelled entirely by minutae, much like the status announcements in Facebook or on MSN.
And no, I'll never use Twitter. I've enough of an online presence!
