Mindless, meaningless, nothingness, nothingness

I hear people talking about Twitter. I do not understand what it is. I distrust it inherently. Despite not knowing what it is. And despite - presumably - the ease with which I could find out what it is by typing "Twitter" into google I have apparently instead chosen to retain my ignorance.

However, thanks to the unutterably marvellous Lore Sjöberg I now know what Twitter is and I feel completely justified in maintaining my irrationally-adopted distrust. For, well, pretty much all the reasons he says, really. Except he said them better than I would have done.

Not bad, but my vote goes to Penny Arcade.

I always feel like I don't quite get Penny Arcade. This is no exception.

I've got a theory, that it's a demon (a dancing demon - no, something isn't right there...)

I think that many people have a little bit of a fantasy about being in a film about their own lives. Hence the need to tell someone, somewhere, about every last little sneeze, cup of coffee, conversation, etc. It's the only explanation I can come up with for why something like twitter is so popular. And yet twitter has virtually no content - it is fuelled entirely by minutae, much like the status announcements in Facebook or on MSN.

And no, I'll never use Twitter. I've enough of an online presence!

Only twitter I'm watching is that of 'Othar Tryggvassen, Gentleman Hero'. Bit-part character in Phil Foglio's Girl Genius comics, he has a daily twitter. It's fun, because it's fictional, and since the Foglios are used to writing for comics, each day's snippet is like one panel of a strip. It works for me.

I have no interest in any other form of twittering.

Hurrah. That there are people who can take something quite inane and go something clever and creative with it gives me hope for the world as a whole :)
