How to upset your housemate, #1
Feb. 17th, 2008 08:44 pmOops.
Frances just came downstairs to find me bathing My Little Ponies in the kitchen sink.
When I explained that I was only sprucing them up so that I could put them on eBay, she cautiously ventured that we might still be able to be friends. However, this was said in tones of one who is (a) making a great concession and (b) not at all sure it's the right choice.
They are now trotting winsomely (if damply) across the draining rack.
On a related note, does anyone know what constitutes 'good condition' for a My Little Pony ? Mine are definitely on the 'played with' side of mint.

Date: 2008-02-18 09:57 am (UTC)Bowtie was the first pony I ever had, but its tail fell out. So we had to replace it and they didn't have any left. I never managed to get hold of one after that...

Date: 2008-02-17 09:25 pm (UTC)If you're going to Ebay them then I would've thought it doesn't much matter so long as you include a sufficiently hi-res digital photo.
My guess would be that light wear (slight scratches, irregularities in the mane, etc.) wouldn't disqualify a Pony from good condition. Bad stuff would be discolouration (anything from sunlight damage to felt tip stains), cracks in the surface (due to wear or age) or deformations to the soft surfaces (holes poked with compass points, chewed by dog, etc.).

Date: 2008-02-17 09:57 pm (UTC)I will warn you that there are certain very common ponies who hang around car boot sales a lot, and will be worth no more than about £1 on the Ebay market. However, then again there are still rares and lucky finds to be had. If you want to send me the pictures first so that I can tell you if you have any rarities, and suggest a reasonable opening price, I'll be happy to help.
Incidentally, bathing My Little Ponies in the sink is perfectly normal behaviour. As is boiling them in saucepans, painstakingly pulling out all their hair and taking their heads off.
Oh, and you should really let them dry with their tails pointing downwards - this allows all the water to escape through the tail-hole, and helps to prevent internal mould and tail-rust (caused by the steel washers which hold their tails in). Plus fabric conditioner will usually bring about a great improvement to a frizzy mane or tail.
I'll just shut up, now...

Date: 2008-02-17 10:15 pm (UTC)I think mine are all common ponies (they're now hanging upside down, smoking fags and drinking chardonnay). Memory tells me they are Bowtie, Butterscotch and Moonstone (who's really a unicorn).
I was planning to put them on eBay as a job lot - I'm not so much hoping to make a profit, as hoping they'll go somewhere they'll be appreciated.
Also selling a reversible-faced My Little Pony clock if you're interested - it's kind of cheap and plasticy, but I've no idea whether I should just put it up for a penny and hope for the best.
