Once I'd got there, I managed to get one hand badly caught in the swords, had a bunch of swords smacked off my head, and someone trod on my foot. For encore, I did some practice tumbles[*], and fell of and landed on my knees.
And found out that a friend broke his back earlier in the week.
Bah. Should have stayed at home.

He had to be completely immobilised for 48 hours, by now he should be at the stage of "just lying very still". I believe a back brace will soon get involved.
Someone else I knew who broke their back was back to more-or-less normal in 6 months, but I don't know if that was fast/slow/a completely different injury so irrelevant. Hopefully Gary will be visitable soon.
