Fancy a lyrics quiz ? Go on, it's Friday.

ChrisC and I have been evolving this quiz for a week or so now, and we think it's about time to unleash it on the world.

For each question, simply fill in the name which has been removed from the lyric. If you want to be smug, you can name the artist and song title as well, but that's not required.

For example:

It's me, ________, I've come home.

Would be "Cathy", from Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush.
Sometimes a single gap denotes more than one word missing:

________, dance on air

Would be "Ginger Rogers", from Vogue by Madonna.

If you don't like the poll format, post your answers as an anonymous comment, which will be screened.

[Poll #383221]

Update: Bits I forgot earlier: No googling, obviously. No going and listening to check the name if you think you've identified the song :)
If you want to change/update/add to your answers, go here, select Fill Out Poll and you can.

Update2: Sorry about the formatting cock-up between 14 and 15.
Also, "named" in question 35 should read "name of", and "name of" in question 19 should read "named" :(

Update3: Since people are still wandering along here, and being pointed here by others... I'm afraid to announce that this quiz was closed on 19/11/04. People are still welcome to fill the poll in, of course, but they won't get scores calculated for them. Full answers, and a score table, can be found here.

It's great.

I started doing it but I could only get seven of them so I was too embarrassed to submit it.

Oh well.

No, no, please do submit them!
There are many that'd reckon having a knowledge music more of less disjoint from mine demonstrates impeccable taste.

I wouldn't dream of it.

I never know whether I'm picking dead easy or dead obscure lyrics for this, so can never tell whether it's reidiculously hard or ridiculously easy.

If [livejournal.com profile] narenek gets 'em, they're easy.

(There. That gives him a dilemma!)

I won't laugh - seven will very likely beat my score ! I'm not even sure I tried more than seven.

Question 14 has odd formatting. Is this going to be a "can't change it now" problem?

Date: 2004-11-12 09:21 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] venta.livejournal.com
Yes.
You can't change polls after the fact.
That's what comes of being lazy and using emacs keyboard macros to format your LJ posts - the end of the line of q14 accidentally became a separate question in its own right.
Very annoying that I didn't notice it :(

Hurrah ! That makes me so happy ! (That you were doing it, not that you messed it up.)

By clicking on the poll number, and then on 'fill out poll' you can edit your answers after the fact... so long as you didn't go and google in the interim :)

and, naturally, if I was wrong I left the answer blank.

There's an awful lot of this which goes "I know it, I know it. I'll just sing it... Argh, no! I can't remember that line!"

But having got back to my mp3 collection, I've corrected the one answer where I knew I was wrong!

D'oh.
I forgot to include the standard disclaimer about not googling, and it was meant to add that listening wasn't allowed either :(

MMMm.... I knew the artist and title. Just not the precise name in the song (which was a multi-parter. There was just one word I'd lost.)

Yes, I was up to speed on what you meant. My defence was that I'd got most of the answer anyway. Plus the "optional extra" stuff. So it's worth a point anyway. Really. Yes, really!

Fab. I do like a lyric quiz; feeble answers submitted. There's a couple there which are bugging me and I'll probably have to Google for, if only to put me out of my misery. (I promise not to go back to it if I do.) There's quite a few I really don't recognise at all and fear are a probably little too modern for me - but ta for putting in some oldies too!

Many millions of hero points to you and Chris for putting it together.

Traffic in that particular community isn't terribly speedy. Actually it's rather like busses. You sit there waiting for months for a quiz, and then three will come along all at once.

Sometimes.

There are answers posted here (http://www.livejournal.com/users/venta/121439.html), if you haven't found them already.

Feel free to add a comment on that post telling me your score, and I'll add you in the table. (I'm fraid I'm seeing polls before the eyes after sorting the scoring out and can't quite face doing any more just yet :)

Oops - I just did it as well, How silly of me. By the looks of the answers, I would have got about 40...

The moral of the story being that, on average, everybody in songs is called Johnny.
