It's snowing!

OK, so in a really minor, rubbish way. And the forecast is for rain. And snow never settles in London. And (as [livejournal.com profile] feanelwa pointed out yesterday) snow is the last thing you want if you're on crutches.

But dammit, I like snow.

Although it might have stopped in the time it's taken me to post this :)

It's snowing!

I mean, it's rubbish, thin, wet snow. And it's not settling. And the world looks dank rather than pretty. And I have to go out in the cold shortly.

But snow! I love snow.

Hmm. This morning, I very probably shouldn't have gone to work. However, Monday's forecast snow was a non-event, the weather didn't look that bad, and I'd promised to deliver something to the office for one of my colleagues. So off I went.

Walk to Ealing Broadway in the lightest of light dustings of snow. Catch train to Reading. Arrive at Reading. Collect bike.

And that's when it went wrong )

And do you know what? I still love snow. As I arrived at work, I stopped to watch a red kite wheeling around the sky, snowflakes tumbling all around it. Even Reading looks pretty in the snow :)

Pottering around in the snow yesterday, I observed a number of snowmen (and one snowwoman, and one ten-foot-tall snowbehemoth, and a rather lovely snowdog). Almost all were built to the crazy three-ball snowperson pattern. When I were a lad child, snowmen were made out of two balls of snow.

When did this madness involving an abdomen come in? Am I right to blame it largely on Calvin? That's Calvin of "and Hobbes" fame, not the guy who founded Calvinism, who probably thought playing the snow was far too frivolous.

I also note that, in the absence of coal being readily available, the go-to objects for snow-eyes are plastic supermarket milk bottle tops. Mostly semi-skimmed, though I did see one wall-eyed snowman who was full-fat on his left-hand side. Carrots are still big news in the snow-nose world.

Gosh. It's snowy up here in Darlington. Apparently it wasn't particularly snowy up until we were about twenty minutes away last night, whereupon the sky threw snow around madly for around twenty five minutes. We arrived in appalling driving conditions, then the weather promptly settled down into a smug, festive, picturesque backdrop.

Popping to the shops... )

... and putting up the tree )

My snow's here! I'm not sure if it's Coventry snow sent by [livejournal.com profile] mrph. I hope it's not Cambridge snow, because [livejournal.com profile] cocacolasurfer will be sending me an invoice if it is :(

Humph. London's got some. Darlington's got some. Cambridge's got some.

Where's my snow ?
