Oh dear...

However, I mean two of those bands. The ones that all sound like that.

Date: 2002-12-23 03:42 am (UTC)No, I wouldn't lump Sum 41 in either, I just thought that the "The Sums" joke was relevant to the subject. Sum 41 are officially lumped with Green Day, The Offspring and Blink 182.
I heard a Datsuns song that was alright. Research suggests it's called "In Love". The riff is grand.
I'm reserving judgement on the Streets until I hear some more stuff. I thought "Don't Mug Yourself" was OK as a novelty song. The only other track of theirs I've heard was also OK as a novelty song, but somewhat less OK. This is not a good sign. However, they are terribly trendy.
I think that slightly more is made of all these bands sounding the same than is really justified. The similarity is that they're all lo-fi guitar bands, and they're all the right age to think that New York punk was dead cool, without actually having been around to hear it at the time. Other than that, they play varying styles of rock/indie/pop.
