Take a fish and a potato

Those concerned about the kipper situation will be delighted to hear that they have finally limped (swum?) in. Postmarked June 1st, they've only just managed to make it from Whitby to Cambridge for today.

Now, various people have pointed out that I'm possibly entitled to demand all sorts of reparations from the Kipper Shop, since the goods are now (presumed) unusable. However, it's a small business and I don't feel inclined to blame them for the vagiaries and crapness of the Royal Mail. It might be legally valid, but I don't think it's reasonable.

However. I have mailed enquiries to Kipper Recipient to find out whether or not there was a leaflet in with the kippers which might have some form of contact details on it. If the Kipper Shop has some means of claiming back from the PO, then I'm all for having a grumble and requesting a nice new pair.

This policy was arrived at after much discussion and waving of Rights (and pointing out of the obvious) from, er, everyone who seems to be lurking about in my office right now.

waving of Rights
Better than waving of Kippers, which, presumably, is causing much stinkiness in Cambridge?

I believe they are vacuum-packed when posted. It probably depends whether Kipper Recipient is brave enough to open them or not.

They'll be fine.

Bit gamey is all.

You're supposed to hang kippers by the tail feathers until they drop off, or something, anyway.

If the kippers were sent standard first class or anything higher, the shop should be able to claim (assuming you can track down what shop it was now). A first class package is insured to the sum of £25, as long as you get proof of postage.

By the way, who was meant to eat these kippers, you or the friend? I presume they were some kind of gift for the friend, or otherwise there would be more of a delay as they were sent on to you?

They were intended for the friend :)

If I'd have wanted kippers I could have just brought them back from Whitby with me. I like kippers, but I'm scared of the bones.

Contact the kipper shop, if you can find an address, as they need to know Royal mail is buggering up their system and they have a reputation to preserve. They may have a rolling compoensation arrangement with PO as I reckon they'll need one. Postmarked June 1 - get the bit of packaging with the postmark on.

Kippers are smoked. Smoking is preserving BUT....
