I pottered into Boots on the way home from work today, thinking that I might spend the vouchers I got for Christmas. They were having a sale, after all, and I'd decided I wanted some crimpers. Yes, yes, I know crimped hair has been passé for ever, but I'm embracing my inner goth or something. Actually, if anything, I was thinking how great [livejournal.com profile] keris's hair looked when she crimped it while we were in Whitby.

However. It seems that today's manfacturers are determined to save me from myself. In Boots, I could have purchased many and varied celebrity-hairdresser-endorsed devices for straightening my hair, or indeed getting the "bed head" look, but the only thing remotely resembling a set of crimpers was a pink plastic (pink? I ask you) toy affair that didn't really look up to the task.

Dammit, I do not want chic, sleek hair for this millennium. I want big 80s hair that will scare small children, and provide alternative habitat for disposessed voles.

Next stop, the bigger Boots in town, and if they don't come up with the crimpers, there's going to be trouble.

Does anyone remember the jolly little potatoes who used to dance round on telly singing "We want to be Smiths' crisps"? Well, I'd quite like to buy some (the crisps, not the singing spuds).

In particular, I want to buy Smiths' Square crisps. I want the ready salted ones and, while I don't mind buying four packets at a time, I do not want to labour under the burden of eight packes of cheese&onion and salt&vinegar to get my trusty red-packeted crisps.

Sainsbury's does own-brand Square crisps, which are as good, but Tesco's seems unwilling to oblige in this department. Unless someone wishes to make themselves known as a ready market for blue and green square crisps, I'm going to have to, er... do without, I suppose.

And why do Square crisps taste different, anyway? Does anyone else remember Tubes, which were the same substance, but tube-shaped?

We have square crisps in our vending machine. Mmmmmm. Might go have a packet...

And pink is just a colour, it doesn't change the functionality of the object.

And pink is just a colour

I know that. But since it didn't look like it was going to be sufficiently functional anyway, pink was just one more thing in its disfavour.
