I know what shapes to throw

I pottered into Boots on the way home from work today, thinking that I might spend the vouchers I got for Christmas. They were having a sale, after all, and I'd decided I wanted some crimpers. Yes, yes, I know crimped hair has been passé for ever, but I'm embracing my inner goth or something. Actually, if anything, I was thinking how great [livejournal.com profile] keris's hair looked when she crimped it while we were in Whitby.

However. It seems that today's manfacturers are determined to save me from myself. In Boots, I could have purchased many and varied celebrity-hairdresser-endorsed devices for straightening my hair, or indeed getting the "bed head" look, but the only thing remotely resembling a set of crimpers was a pink plastic (pink? I ask you) toy affair that didn't really look up to the task.

Dammit, I do not want chic, sleek hair for this millennium. I want big 80s hair that will scare small children, and provide alternative habitat for disposessed voles.

Next stop, the bigger Boots in town, and if they don't come up with the crimpers, there's going to be trouble.

Does anyone remember the jolly little potatoes who used to dance round on telly singing "We want to be Smiths' crisps"? Well, I'd quite like to buy some (the crisps, not the singing spuds).

In particular, I want to buy Smiths' Square crisps. I want the ready salted ones and, while I don't mind buying four packets at a time, I do not want to labour under the burden of eight packes of cheese&onion and salt&vinegar to get my trusty red-packeted crisps.

Sainsbury's does own-brand Square crisps, which are as good, but Tesco's seems unwilling to oblige in this department. Unless someone wishes to make themselves known as a ready market for blue and green square crisps, I'm going to have to, er... do without, I suppose.

And why do Square crisps taste different, anyway? Does anyone else remember Tubes, which were the same substance, but tube-shaped?

But you've already got quite "big" hair. Fortunately, it's hidden by being down your back. If it's capable of standing up under its own strength, it's not just small children who are going to get scared.

Will a Van Der Graaf generator do instead?

*grins*
I asked my dad for crimpers for Christmas. He got me Babyliss trio - no idea how good they are yet though as they take 25 minutes to warm up, which is usually how long it takes me to get home, eat, get changed and run out of the door being late for going gothing (they came from Superdrug though, as the little Boots we tried had only straighteners, boooooring).

Big hair! Hurray!

Yes, I remember those potatoes of which you speak! They had... big... jackets. Oh. Wasn't there one spud, upon failing to get into a club, who would spin around and then look ever so disappointed? A haunting image!

Can't recall square crisps having a particular taste to them qua crisps, but they are - were? - distinctly associable with a relatively hard texture. Perhaps that might be it?

Sorted for S and Vs ?

I'm up for as many of the Salt and Vinegar ones as you're likely to end up with - assuming your markup isn't too extortionate !

I'm having no truck with those dubious 'cheese' and "onion" ones, though.

Now there's a little ditty going round my head ("We want to be... Smi-iths' crisps, we want to be...") and it's all your fault.

I shall break ranks horribly here and say that I think your hair is perfectly lovely as it is, and the application of crimpers would possibly spoil the effect. Since you asked. Oh, you didn't.....

And yes, Tubes were marvellous.

Thanks :)

Just sometimes I feel the urge to take up twice as much dancefloor as I otherwise can. Besides, think of the poor voles.

Well, if [livejournal.com profile] bateleur takes the S&V ones, I could probably be persuaded to take the cheesy ones, which would probably leave you with the crisps you want. ;)

Hurrah!

Crisp Consortium will beging trading, er, next time I go to Tesco.

I seem to recall in the dim mists of time when you plaited your hair in lots of little plaits and when you took them out had the desired crimped look.

Given that crimping your rather long hair would take at least an hour, and would like start to fall out before the end of the night.

I seem to recall in the dim mists of time when you plaited your hair in lots of little plaits and when you took them out had the desired crimped look.

I'm unsure whether that's a general "you" or you mean me personally :) I certainly have done that in the past, but in order to wash my hair, plait it, let it dry, take it out again takes rather more than an hour - I need a couple of days' warning!

Maybe I should theive someone else's crimpers and experiment before going wild and purchasing some.

I did mean *you* as in in actually you :)

I was alarmed to discover recently that I could dig out my crimpers from when I was 9 and use them again, claiming I was once more vaguely in fashion. How bizarre.

We have square crisps in our vending machine. Mmmmmm. Might go have a packet...

And pink is just a colour, it doesn't change the functionality of the object.

And pink is just a colour

I know that. But since it didn't look like it was going to be sufficiently functional anyway, pink was just one more thing in its disfavour.

They do, according to their website, sell them in packs of 10 - and they are currently on promotion (£1 a pack, if you buy 3).

Which, now I read your original note correctly, I guess you already know!

I'll shut up now...
