I'm on the hunt...

On the way home from work today, I was listening to a tape a friend made for me. It's all daft cover versions of songs, but unfortunately she didn't know who they were by, so it came minus a track listing.

Most of them are good for a listen or two, but one (a version of Hungry Like the Wolf) really caught my attention. Not really expecting success, I set Shazam[*] on it, and lo! Apparently it's by Reel Big Fish.

Now someone was very into them a little while back - onebyone, was it you ? Was it AdamH ? Can someone tell me whether they're any cop in general, or even lend me an album or something ?

[*] Shazam being the rather wonderful service of which one can avail oneself by dialling 2580 on a mobile, and holding the phone where it can hear some music. You get an sms back telling you what the song was... Costs 50p a go, or free if they can't identify your song; doesn't work from pay-as-you-go phones. I'm still surprised at how unadvertised Shazam is.

I seem to recall onebyone namechecking Reel Big Fish on verlaine's LJ a while back as being The Next Big Thing of five-minutes-ago, if you see what I mean.

I don't know about "big thing", maybe that was wishful thinking on my part, but I like them very much. And so does AdamH. And so does my brother. So they must be good.

Their cover of "Take on Me", of which I sadly don't have a copy, is also exceedingly fine. Consider the synth intro, played by two trumpets and a trombone. Sweet.
