Oh *wow*!

This is the best recipe in the world. Ever.

One day, one day... :)

Where does one find a pot big enough to boil a camel?

[identity profile] venta.livejournal.com 2003-11-21 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
Read again, it says "broil" not "boil" :)

[identity profile] narenek.livejournal.com 2003-11-21 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
Erm...

Skin, trim and clean camel (once you get over the hump), lamb and chicken. Boil until tender...

and later.

Broil over large charcoal pit until brown.

I'm guessing you cook the meat first to make sure it gets done right the way through, then broil it for colour.

(in the right place now).

Oops, sorry, you're right.

Maybe you boil the lamb and chickens then broil the camel ?

Either way, the answer is Denby Dale, probably.

(Denby being a place in Yorkshire which holds the world record for the biggest pie - some of their pie dishes are impressive.)

5 pounds black pepper

Can we get [livejournal.com profile] leathellin and [livejournal.com profile] metame to bring one back with them?

And I think I'm more scared by the link to the Australian Association...

[identity profile] venta.livejournal.com 2003-11-21 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, lots of camels in Australia. Or so my boss tells me. They imported them.

[identity profile] wechsler.livejournal.com 2003-11-21 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
I thought they floated there on driftwood?

[identity profile] venta.livejournal.com 2003-11-21 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
That's convicts you're thinking of.

floated there on driftwood

[identity profile] thegreenman.livejournal.com 2003-11-21 06:42 am (UTC)(link)
Surely a camel would float anyway?

More popular than it ought to be:

Googling for camel recipes produces
Results 1 - 10 of about 40,700. Thankfully, this is reduced to
only 24 if quotation marks are added.

Someone - can't remember who - was telling me recently that camel was actually rather nice to eat. Hmm. [livejournal.com profile] timsmith, maybe ? Not sure.

Hmm... I tried it once, and found it tasteless and stringy, but that was the Australian variety - maybe the African ones taste better.

I thought that was elephants.

[livejournal.com profile] metame had some in Tunisia and said it was lovely.
I'm not sure a camel would fit in our luggage allowance though.

[identity profile] onebyone.livejournal.com 2003-11-24 02:49 am (UTC)(link)

Couldn't it help carry the luggage, though?

[identity profile] beckyc.livejournal.com 2003-11-21 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
Wow! I'm vegetarian and still I agree with you!

[identity profile] nisaba.livejournal.com 2003-11-21 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
I love camels, couldn't eat a whole one...

[identity profile] bateleur.livejournal.com 2003-11-21 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
I love camels

Save that for Jerry Springer, eh ?

[identity profile] stompyboots.livejournal.com 2003-11-21 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
My oven's not big enough. :(

[identity profile] onebyone.livejournal.com 2003-11-21 07:08 am (UTC)(link)

That's why you need a large charcoal pit. Which apparently can be acquired in Denby Dale, unless I've got confused somewhere along the line.

[identity profile] venta.livejournal.com 2003-11-21 07:24 am (UTC)(link)
No no no. The pot large enough to boil a camel in can be acquired there.

A large charcoal pit can be acquired practically anywhere with sufficient will and digging equipment. And charcoal.

Perhaps your local trap for heffalumps, when devoid of bears or even heffalumps, could be fashioned into a suitable charcoal pit.

Denby Dale's well known for charcoal pits. They're a part of its rich, Arabic cultural heritage. Or something.

I really hope you wrote that recipe down, because the link is now giving a 404.
