You wet through and me headfirst

ventaWe're three days down on Wet January.
On Tuesday I saw the morning in with hot water, got myself a nice mug of hot water when I arrived at work...
...and apparently carried on with the hot water for the rest of the day. Meaning that by the time I arrived at the Lexington, I thought I might as well have a pint. I didn't really intend that my first consciously-added drink would be beer, but there you have it.
On Wednesday, I nearly made the same hot-water mistake again, and only hastily managed to draft in my daytime staple of peppermint tea very late in the afternoon.
Pondering over a dinner order, pre-gig, I asked the restaurant what its guest ale was. It was, apparently, mumble mumble, and would I like a taste? Despite being described as ale it was a very pale, exceedingly overhopped outbreak of hipster nonsense that frankly should not really be counted "the same" as the sensible brown beer I had the previous day.
(I mean, the previous day's beer was described as "session IPA", and had an exceedingly Shoreditch black-and-white pump clip and NZ hops, but it was brown and tasted sensible. Not P at all.)
Anyway, I tried to take it before the panel as described in the rules, but the panel knows absolutely jack about beer and just looked at me blankly. I stuck with water, but having tasted the not-very-aley guest ale I feel I'm on dicey ground.
