Me and my trusty notebook (by which I mean a spiral-bound paper thing) have fought dangers untold and trials unnumbered (and the painful LJ mechanism for reading poll results) and added up scores.

The glamour, honour and glory of first prize is split between Diffrentcolours, Shermarama, and Dr Bob[*], who all got 23 1/2 out of 45. Special mention to Dr Bob for being the only person to score 5/5 on a round (on the Sports round, no less). [**]

Wooden spoon award goes to Damerell. Not because he got the lowest score (he didn't), but for the entertainingly nonsense answers and generalised commentary he shoehorned into the poll. Plus getting at least two correct accidentally due to sarcasm. Also for being the only person across the whole of DW, LJ, and the quiz' original intended audience to get the channel 5 question right.

Any prizewinner is entitled to demand a pint from me in person as winnings, should we cross paths ;)

TV Commercials
==============
When the red car and the blue car had a race, what were they advertising?

- Milky Way. I claimed anyone in the right demographic could sing this advert all the way the through without even thinking. I guess that was wrong.

What was "tasty, tasty, very very tasty"?

- Bran Flakes. As Huskyteer correctly added: the hell they are.

What was the first product ever advertised on Channel 5?

- Chanel no. 5. Yes, really.

What was advertised in 1987 with the phrase "It is. Are you?"

- The Independent.

Which bank liked to say 'yes'?

- TSB

90's TV
=======
What was the name of the housekeeper in Father Ted?

- Mrs Doyle. Oh, go on go on go on.

What was the name of the made up drug which was discussed in parliament due to an episode of Brass Eye?

- Cake.

What are the first names of Mulder and Scully?

- Fox and Dana, respectively.

Name the four crystal maze zones.

- The entirely non-orthogonal Aztec, Futuristic, Industrial and Medieval. Also Oceanic, from series 4 or so onwards.

What was the name of the Channel 4 TV series presented by Antoine de Caunes and Jean-Paul Gaultier?

- Eurotrash. (Not Rapido, that was only de Caunes.)

90's News
=========
In what city did David Koresh's cult die in a fire after spending more than a month in a stand off with the FBI?

- Waco. And if you've never heard The Indelicates' concept album David Koresh Superstar, you really should. It's bloody great.

In 1992, The Sun published a recording of a conversation between Diana and James Gibley. By what name was the subsequent scandal known, based on a pet-name in the recording?

- Squidgeygate. Eww.

What was signed on 10 April 1998 after 30 years of violence?

- The Good Friday Agreement

Who was released in late 1991 after 1763 days in captivity?

- Terry Waite. And really guys, Nelson Mandela was released approximately then, but he was in prison for 27 years. 27 * 365 != 1763

In which year did the first national lottery draw take place?

- 1994.

90's Tech
=========
On 5th July 1996, the first mammal cloned from adult cells was born. What was she called?

- Dolly.

What web hosting company was founded in 1994, and acquired by Yahoo! in 1999 (at which time it was the third-most visited site on the World Wide Web)?

- Geocities. I remain staggered that it was ever the third-most visited site. I guess there wasn't that much competition in '99. Few people got this; perhaps we should have included something in the question about crimes against aesthetics.

In 1991, what's commonly recognised as the world's first web cam was turned on in Cambridge University. What was it looking at?

- A coffee pot. Bonus points to all the Cambridge people who went for extra credit on this one and told me it was in the Trojan Room of the university computing lab.

What American music video featuring Happy Days was included in Windows 95?

- Buddy Holly, by Weezer. I thought this would be much more commonly known than it is. Only Diffrentcolours seemed confident of the answer (one other person sounded like they guessed :) If you've never seen it, go and watch the video.

For what, first released in 1994, was Andrew Wiles famous, eventually ending centuries of speculation?

- I apologise for the unlovely phraseology there. I meant to fix it, and forgot. Andrew Wiles published a proof of Fermat's Last Theorem.

90's Music
==========
Name the 5 members of the Spice Girls - first name and (maiden) surname, not nicknames. Half a point for 4 members.

- Melanie Brown ("Scary Spice"), Melanie Chisholm ("Sporty Spice"), Emma Bunton ("Baby Spice"), Geri Halliwell ("Ginger Spice"), and Victoria Adams ("Posh Spice"). I do not remember Victoria Beckham's maiden name.

Who won the Eurovision Song Contest on behalf of the UK in May 1997?

- Improbably, Katrina and the Waves. No, not for that one, for Love Shine a Light

Who invaded the stage during Michael Jackson's performance at the 1996 Brit Awards?

- Jarvis Cocker.

At the height of the battle of Britpop, in August 1995, Blur and Oasis both released singles in the same week vying for number 1. What was the name of the song which lost?

- Roll With It. The uttlerly unlovable Country House won. Even I think that was unjust, and I do not like Oasis.

Name the song featuring this lyric: "She's into superstitions, black cats and voodoo dolls. I feel a premonition that girl's gonna make me fall"

- Livin' La Vida Loca, by Ricky Martin.

90's Films
==========
What 1994 film, whose script was turned down by Columbia Tristar for being "too demented", went on to win the Palme d'Or and be nominated for 7 Oscars?

- Pulp Fiction

What was first animated film to be nominated for Best Picture? (1991)

- Beauty & the Beast. I was genuinely surprised to discover this was from '91. I thought it was late 70s. Apparently it contains CGI that should make it obvious it wasn't.

Bohemian Rhapsody went back to No 1 in the UK singles chart in 1991 because of which film?

- Wayne's World. Please do the obligatory headbanging now.

Which 1990 film contained the characters Kevin McCallister, Harry Lime, Marv Merchants?

- Home Alone

Who played the boy in Sixth Sense?

- Hayley Joel Osment

90's Fashion (and Fads)
=======================
What iconic brand was relaunched in 1994, with a high-profile ad campaign featuring Eva Herzigova?

- Wonderbra. The ad campaign had the slogan "Hello Boys", if that jogs a memory.

Which celebrity popularized the hairstyle known as The Rachel?

- Jennifer Anniston (who played Rachel in Friends)

What was the brand name of the early-90s T-shirts that changed colour with temperature?

- Global Hypercolour. I found my Hypercolour t-shirt a while back (possibly the only example of me buying a fashionable thing in the 90s. Or ever.) It doesn't work any more.

In 1995, alcopops hit the UK, leading with two brands of alcoholic lemonade. One was Hooper's Hooch, what was the other?

- Two Dogs. No, not Smirnoff Ice. That was later, and was originally marketed as a "pre-mixed drink" or somesuch, not lemonade.

- Safety pins.

90's Sport
==========
Which city hosted the summer Olympics in 1996?

- Atlanta.

- OJ Simpson

Which Formula 1 driver won BBC Sports Personality of the Year twice in the 1990s, in 1994 and 1996?

- Damon Hill (Nigel Mansell did also win it twice, but one of his wins was in the 80s)

In July 1990, in Turin, why did receiving a yellow card make Paul Gascoigne cry?

- A second yellow card meant that he wouldn't be able to play in the World Cup final. A problem rendered largely irrelevant when England lost the semi-final on penalties, anyway.

If you matriculated in October 1994, and did a 4 year course, how many boat races in that period did Oxford win?

- A big round number: 0. Cambridge won it flat out for most of the 90s.

Games
=====
In Cluedo, three murder weapons are revolver, rope and dagger. What are the other three? Half a point for two.

- Candlestick, lead piping and spanner (or wrench if you're playing in North America). No, not poison.

What children's board games takes "a very steady hand"?

- Operation.

How many opening moves are available in a game of chess?

- 20. Each pawn can move forward one space (that's 8 pawns, so 8 moves). Or each pawn could move two spaces (8 moves). Each knight can go two forward and one left, or two forward and one right. 8 + 8 + 2*2 = 20.

Dmitry Davydov, of the Moscow University Psychology dept., is credited with inventing what game in 1986?

- OK, this question was included specially for one person in the original audience. She has spent the past decade or so constantly trying to get unwilling groups of people to play it. The correct answer is Mafia (also known as Werewolf). Not Tetris, that was someone different, at a different institution, a couple of years earlier.

On a Monopoly board, what colour is Trafalgar Square?

- red.

[**] Recount! CEB also got 5/5 for TV. I'm going to stop counting now, because there is a fairly high chance I've got it wrong elsewhere too.

Cor! Someone in 90s advertising had the same sense of humour, I guess. I shall keep careful count to ensure you buy me exactly one more pint in Whitby than I do you. Honest. :-)
