Aug. 11th, 2003 10:56 pmAnd every time I try to go online, my 'puter non-negotiably shuts itself down because "a Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service terminated unexpectedly".
I'm running Windows XP - does anyone have any ideas ?
(This was written in the 60 secs it gives me to close everything...)

Date: 2003-08-11 03:12 pm (UTC)Have a look at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=327148 which allegedly also applies to XP.
To replace system files with originals - use sfc /scannow - see http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;310747
To prevent automatic reboot:
Within the 60 seconds go to Start > Run
Type "cmd" to get a command prompt
Type "shutdown -a" to abort the shutdown.
A security hotfix is also referenced http://www.microsoft.com/security/security_bulletins/ms03-026.asp

Date: 2003-08-12 01:19 am (UTC)The information to abort the shutdown is especially useful. Otherwise is going to be damn hard to look at the links everyone else has cited :)
(If I look distressed at Intrusion, then I didn't manage to sort it out tonight!)

I'll be at home cataloguing my collection of cornflakes.
