It's Friday! It's about three o'clock! It's time to Boogie At Your Desk!

Friday afternoons need a little something. I think they need a Top Tune. Something to make you shuffle in your seat and, if possible, Boogie At Your Desk.

I'm not claiming that any track provided to enable At-Desk Boogying is one of the world's best or most profound pieces of music. It will, however, be a tune which makes me smile, and which has at some stage made me surreptitiously Boogie At My Desk.

Desks are not compulsory, of course. Feel free to boogie through your office, in your bedroom, round your lab, across your classroom, on the train - wherever you find yourself on a Friday afternoon.

If you like the track, go out and buy the album it belongs to - I'll try and recommend a suitable CD to purchase for any BAYD track.

The link to the mp3 will expire at some point in the future.

Today you are invited to Boogie At Your Desk to:

Daft Punk - Harder Better Faster Stronger [link to mp3 download expired, YouTube link may still be active]

Well, I don't know about you, but I am celebrating the first UK number one in 2013 that I've actually known: Get Lucky. It is, of course, the return of everyone's favourite dancing French robots Daft Punk.

I know that the canonical Daft Punk floor filler is One More Time, and that's got some great bits (ok, mostly a great bit when the melody comes back after an extended absence). But for joyous electronic funkiness and vocoded[*] nonsense, I've come round to Harder Better Faster Stronger as my BAYD choice.

The only Daft Punk album I own is Musique Vol. I 1993-2005, which one can have from Amazon for less than £5 these days. It's got all the big hits on it (discluding Get Lucky, of course), plus a good handful of repetitive drum-based woogling. All the Daft Punk you really need, in my estimation :)

[*] OK, I have no idea what technology Daft Punk actually use to make that noise. It probably isn't (just) a vocoder. And I'm not even sure if "vocoded" is a word.

Are you saying you don't remember PJ and Duncan the first time around??

(Looking it up, I also have heard the One Direction Comic Relief single, and I think I have heard the Saturdays one too. So this is no.4 of 11 that I know, possibly my best result for years - I didn't hit 4 in 2012 until December, and not at all in 2011...)

Not by name... and I'm not going to YouTube for fear I find something horrid and have to have you murdered for reminding me ;) I presume I'd recognise the One Direction thing as from the title it sounds like a cover. And I can't rule out that I might recognise some of the others.

Certainly this is the first time all year I've even been aware what's at number one at the time!

To properly boogie to this in the age of the internet you really need to learn the Daft Hands routine!

Awesome! I've not seen that before. That sorts out what I'm doing this weekend, anyway :)

Agree about HBFS. (And cannot believe that nobody else has yet observed that you're not losing your edge.)

I did manage to read that as nobody else has yet observed that you're losing your edge!

Thank you :)

Get Lucky is ridiculously, stupidly catchy. Argh.

I also love the way the Daft Punk 'robots' say their band's own name in their rideeeculoos Frrrrrainch accents: "Deft Poonk!"
