This year, for reasons too dull to contemplate, I have to file a tax return. I don't usually do them, it's ages since I've done one, and I don't like it. However!

Yesterday, I found my P60. It was where it was meant to be, in the Big Black Filing Box. This morning, I located annual interest statements. They were where they were meant to be in the BBFB, too. This evening, I sought and found my '11-'12 notice of coding. Hat trick!

Those of you of a naturally organised disposition may not realise what a total triumph this is.

Go, go, Big Black Filing Box!

Right. I'm now done being a sensible grownup, and me and my pint of IPA are going to watch the snooker. In a riotous and juvenile manner.

Much empathy about the tax return.

Thank you! My tax affairs are actually pretty simple, so it really wasn't too bad once I bit the bullet and got on with it.

You're going to hate me, but I usually file mine in September. Their servers have a habit of grinding to a halt and falling over at the tail end of January when everyone submits. You might want to get in a few days ahead of the curve :-)

Yeah me too - I did mine in (sorry!) July last year. But mostly because I wanted to know how much money I owed in my first proper year of self employment.

Also. Bluetones, yay! I heard them played at a club just before Christmas and then went on a little Bluestones-listening nostalgia trip. And I'm about to do that again now.

I am unused to the ways of tax returns, and have frankly been a bit lax about getting round to finding out. I should have done it months ago - didn't realise that you couldn't settle bills through PAYE unless you submitted before the end of October :(

But hurrah, yes! One kudo to you for spotting the Bluetones. They're a band I often forget about, then get to be excited about all over again when I remember :)

When I was freelancing, I found the cost of a "small business" accountant meant he saved me more than I paid him, and his fees were tax deductible. Saved hours of my time, too.

Um, I'm not a very hatey person. Don't see why you should end up the bad guy just because you were more organised ;)

I submitted mine last night with no bother at all (except a mild panic at the 'check your return' stage when a minor typo on my part meant it calculated me a £6K tax bill ;)
