Blimey. Now that I don't share a house with Frances any more, these things sneak up on me...

She's got another book out

I know virtually nothing about it, but it's pretty much bound to be brilliant. The last four were ;)

4? I've only got 3.....

[identity profile] lanfykins.livejournal.com 2012-05-15 11:29 am (UTC)(link)
Fly By Night
Verdigris Deep (aka Well Witched)
Gullstruck Island (aka The Lost Conspiracy)
Twilight Robbery (aka Fly Trap)

Wow, you're ahead of me - I'm not sure I could have rattled off all the American titles as well :)

[identity profile] lanfykins.livejournal.com 2012-05-15 11:37 am (UTC)(link)
I had to look up the American title for Twilight Robbery. As usual, the UK title is better :)

Yes! I mean, I can see the logic in Fly Trap but... eww. Such an ugly title!

'Well Witched'? Really? What were they *thinking*?

...also, you never told me you listened to Nightwish!

[identity profile] venta.livejournal.com 2012-05-16 08:02 am (UTC)(link)
You never told me I was supposed to tell you I listened to Nightwish! Are there any other bands I should be telling you I listen to?

Anyway, it's Katja's fault.

Oh - missed gullstruck island.....

To the wish list!

Its the best one!

You absolutely must not miss Gullstruck Island! It's my favourite :)

I was going to say the same... so, that's you, me and [livejournal.com profile] vicarage. I wonder if there's anyone around who prefers another...

Thus far Fly By Night is my fave.

+1 (not read Twilight Robbery yet though)

I read it last night.

I think of all her books it's most similar to Twilight Robbery. It's a very unusual world, and, being Frances, she has thought hard about all the consequences of what she's built and come to thoroughly imaginative solutions to most of the obvious problems (I was oddly happy to find rickets in the drudges :) ).

The central concept (people who can't show their emotions, but can only learn expressions from skilled Facesmiths) is lovely, and well done, and my mind keeps circling round it. Also, I like the concept of Kleptomancy, which I believe you have something to do with :)

Though I must confess I think her books would be even better if she occasionally left some of her imaginings out :)

There are four? Damn, I must have missed one. *amazons*

Her publishers are badgering her to start an authorial blog, so there may soon be a way of keeping in touch with such developments…
