11. And I was 'round when Jesus Christ had his moment of doubt and pain.
- Sympathy for the Devil, Rolling Stones
12. Four thousand holes in Blackburn, Lancashire
- A Day In The Life, The Beatles
13. Be still, be calm, be quiet, now, my precious boy. Don't struggle like that or I will only love you more.
- Lullaby, The Cure
14. I'd rather sit back, and just smoke cigarattes, be the one with the loudest mouth.
- Sugar in your Gas Tank, Less Than Jake
15. As if to say, as if to say, as if to say, he doesn't like chocolate.
- Helicopter, Bloc Party
16. Near a tree by a river there's a hole in the ground.
- The Riddle, Nick Kershaw
17. You want it all but you can't have it.
- Epic, Faith No More
18. Nicotine, valium, vicodin, marijuana, ecstasy and alcohol.
- Feel Good Hit of the Summer, Queens of the Stone Age
19. I know you want to try and get away, but it's the hardest thing you'll ever know.
- Richard III, Supergrass
20. Now pass the blame and don't blame me, just close your eyes and count to three.
- Shut Up, Madness
21. But she doesn't know that I left my urge in the icebox
- Leif Erikson, Interpol
22. It's like chalk and cheese, her against you, it's like Motorhead and Radio Two.
- Sheffield Song, The Supernaturals
23. Why do you come here when you know it makes things hard for me?
- Suedehead, Morrissey
24. Where did you go when things went wrong for you?
- Slight Return, Bluetones
25. And don't forget to give me back my black t-shirt.
- Song for the Dumped, Ben Folds Five
For those who really wanted to go for extra credit, the subject line and cut-text that I used were:
He plays Billy Bragg and a bit of Green Day
- Old Clash Fan Fight Song, Billy Bragg
Thinking like that I won't make any friends
- Screamager, Therapy?
The theme, for those who didn't get it, was that all those songs have titles which don't appear anywhere in the lyrics. I figured that would make it much harder to name the songs (it seemed to).
The run-away winner is (as ever)
bopeepsheep with a whopping 20 points. For those who feel a bit daunted by that, the median score was 5.5 and the mean was 6.8[*]. Bopeepsheep is, in the nicest possible way, an outlier. Runner up prizes to
phlebas and
valkyriekaren (both on 14) and an honourable mention to
kauket (13).
Also worthy of note are
d_floorlandmine, with the most entertaining answers (including getting two answers wrong, but by the correct band and also fitting the theme...) and
sammason, who gets the SamMason Award for being SamMason in a lyrics quiz (as negotiated, see comments).
Of course, by my own standards I lose, too :) My idea of a successful quiz is one where every question is answered by at least one person... and I failed. No one spotted 14 (Less Than Jake) or 21 (Interpol) (
zotz, I was relying on you for 21). Also thanks to
mr_tom and Bopeepsheep, without whom there'd have been four unanswered. The most-correctly-answered question was Bohemian Rhapsody, narrowly beating Tubthumping.

Date: 2012-04-23 06:37 pm (UTC)I have to admit I have never heard of either 14 or 21, and Queens of the Stone Age have largely passed me by. I should really rectify that at some point, since they turn up often in RL and online quizzes...
