A while back, I tried to comment on a blogspot post using my LJ as OpenID credentials. I got the error message "Your OpenID credentials could not be verified."

Ah well, I thought, never mind. Try again later. However, that's been the result for the past few months whenever I've tried to use LJ as OpenID.

Today I pottered over to read a post on Dreamwidth, and logged in with OpenID successfully. However, although I could see the (locked) post, when I tried to look at the comments it asked me to log in. When I tried to log in, it said "duh, you're already logged in, venta.livejournal.com".

Anyone know what's going on? I've successfully read comments (and indeed posted comments) at Dreamwidth before, and on other blogging places, using LJ for OpenID, but now nothing seems to work any more...

(So to all the people saying of their Dreamwidth accounts "you can comment here using OpenID", er... no, I can't ;)

Update: One of the known issues on the LJ Support page is "OpenID is currently not working with some other services". So I guess I just wait til they fix it...

(As you probably know, DW is not requiring codes at the moment if you want to sign up for an account there - but I see this as being a work-round; OpenID commenting ought to work properly)

Hmm. It works for me. Another thing - I think that DW treats differently OpenIDs where an email address has been confirmed and those where it's not. Do you know if you've confirmed your OpenID with DW?

Er... I have no idea. Is there an easy way to tell? As I said, I've certainly successfully posted comments before, but that may not prove anything.

I suspect it's not a DW issue, due to me being unable to use LJ as OpenID anywhere. DW does do slightly better - it gets as far as showing me the LJ page and asking if I want to grant DW access, whereas blogpsot and friends just pop up a message straight away.

I've had the same (or similar) error when trying to comment on a blogger (I think) blog last week. But I've just successfully commented on a friend's DW entry, so perhaps it's something intermittent?

Intermittent it is - DW is now behaving fine.

The entire rest of the internet still seems unable to cope with LJ-as-OpenID (ie blogspot still failing), though :(

Well, that's the same error I'm seeing, so I think it's a common problem!

I've had this problem a couple of times this week trying to put a comment on a friend's blogspot blog when previously I'd had no trouble.

Sadly this is more of a "I share your confusion" comment than an answer to your question!
