8, 8, I forget what 8 was for

Today's bento was lifted straight from Bento Lady's suggestions; it is, in fact, her Bento no. 26.
Mine looked a bit less elegant, partly due to the lack of a two-tier bento box. Today was the first time I was really aware of a shortage of space in my plastic takeaway box.

Today was a fairly triumphant sub-20 minutes, in which I heated up the burgers, added sauce, heated the beans up with honey and soy, blanched the spinach and did all the usual rice nonsense.
Admittedly, if we add up all the time I've subsequently spent trying to remove the bits of burger I absent-mindedly burned onto the bottom of the pan it will have taken considerably longer.
I do ignore Bento Lady's advice about blanching spinach. She wants me to boil it briefly in a pan of water. Mostly, I just chuck it in a colander, throw a kettle of boiling water over it, and leave it to get on with it by itself. My dressing for the spinach also had white sesame paste in it, because I bought some on a whim a while back and have yet to work out what on earth you do with the stuff. Other than that, I pretty much did it by the book.
And... ooh, yes, it was rather nice. I felt it made really quite a substantial lunch. Though, admittedly, not so substantial that when our CEO ambled in with plates of posh sarnies from an over-catered board meeting I didn't manage to fit a second lunch in as well. I have to concede I couldn't then manage a doughnut. Which is a shame, because it's taken us a long time to train our Head of Engineering into the idea that if he wants our attention in meetings, he can damn well purchase it with baked goods.
I do realise that for a fortnight I have been relentlessly telling you what I've had for lunch. Which is more of a Twitter thing, and not what one expects on LJ.
The Committee of Bento Investigation has determined that constructing purpose-built lunches is a good idea, and I intend to carry on making bento boxes. The Committee has further deemed that if I keep it up for another fortnight, I may go so far as to purchase myself a proper box. I may occasionally post up anything I feel is particularly noteworthy or interesting, but I shall now desist posting pictures of my daily grub :)
