It's Friday, it's about 3 o'clock. It's time to go underneath the covers (with the lights out).

I always recommend listening to a cover version without knowing what or who it is, so click on the link before reading ahead...

Today's cover version [link to mp3 expired]

That was Barefoot covering It's Like That, originally by Run D.M.C.

This is one of the few recognisable cover versions on the bizarre - but likable - Barefoot concept album. Someone, somewhere, though it'd be a great idea to take a bunch of house tunes and turn them into acoustic, chilled out, loungey numbers.

It works remarkably well. Mostly because unless you're paying quite close attention too all the lyrics, the likes of White Lines and particularly Born Slippy will get past without you even noticing what they are.

I had intended to post Born Slippy today, but a close listening had me worried. It's almost too different to the original to count as a cover - more a "song inspired by". If you're curious, you should check it out, though, as it's well worth a listen. In fact, you should also go an listen to the original Born Slippy. I hadn't heard it in ages, and and it's damn good.

For a while every second-hand record shop seemed to have a bunch of copies of Barefoot (and I'm sure there used to be a website from which the whole album could be streamed, but I can't find it any more - or it no longer exists). If you see one, grab it. I'm sure it's the ideal background music for the modern sophisticated urban dinner party :)

Wow, now that's a good example of a *completely different* cover. I was kinda chilling out to it without really listening and only worked it out on a late chorus! I like it I think, even though it's not usually my style of music.
