It's Friday, it's about 3 o'clock. It's time to go underneath the covers (with the lights out).

I always recommend listening to a cover version without knowing what or who it is, so click on the link before reading ahead...

Today's cover version [Link to cover version expired]

That was Frente! covering Bizarre Love Triangle, originally by New Order[*].

The first time I heard this cover, I genuinely didn't recognise it. Which, with hindsight, surprises me. Possibly because the rhythm and general New Orderliness are the most distinctive things about the original rather than the lyrics.

This cover comes from one of the Indie Top 20 albums of yesteryear. It's c.1994, and I've been properly bouncing around this morning to Lush and the Inspiral Carpets and Veruca Salt (no really... when did you last hear Seether?)

This sort of fifteen[**] year old compilation disc - particularly free-with-magazine cover discs - are usually ten a penny in charity shops. I heartily recommend picking a few up from your chosen era; they often have hidden gems as the tracks which got on to them aren't always the ones that have stuck around as nostalgic favourites.

[*] Yes, that's a link to the 1994 version, not the original. Youtube was more forthcoming on that version.
