I've not posted anything here, mostly out fear of premature enumeration of chickens, but I shall shortly be moving away from Oxford. I'll write more about where I'm going and what I'm doing when I've gone there and done it; the short version is that I'm swapping my long commute in the car for a long commute on the train, and going to live with ChrisC in a flat in West London.

So, the main purpose of this post is to enquire whether you know anyone who might like to rent a room in Oxford. Do you ?

For nine years I've been living in a nice, furnished house near Donnington Bridge, in a room which is (just) big enough to fit in a double bed[*]. The other rooms are currently filled by Frances, who's the best housemate ever, and [livejournal.com profile] hendybear (in absentia, because he mostly lives in Shanghai these days).

Er... I suspect many of you have seen it, but in case not: the house has a big kitchen, shared living room, wi-fi broadband, a decent-sized garden, a shed to keep your bike in, off-road parking for one car... most of the things a discerning room renter in modern Oxford might require. The rent is extremely reasonable (<£300 a month, plus £100ish for bills), though I won't post an actual figure until Hendybear confirms whether he's putting it up (it hasn't changed in some years).

If you don't know Oxford well, Donnington Bridge is southish with a good bus service into town and quick access to the A34. Also convenient for taking the A4074 to Reading, which I've been doing for over a decade. There's a paradelet of shops just round the corner on Iffley Road, and a big Sainsburys a decent hike or short drive away.

I intend to be all moved out around the end of October; if someone required a room at a particular time then I could probably clear the room by about next weekend (the attic might take a little longer...).

[*] and, for the record: a chest of drawers, a wardrobe, a small desk, a big book shelf, a little bookshelf, and around 600 CDsworth of CD racks. It's a little crowded, I'd recommend slightly less furniture. I'll be taking the little bookshelf and the CD racks away with me.

Woo, joining the West London massive, yo!

Although, as far as I know the 'massive' consists of just me...

The West London miniscule ?

I shall be, more specifically, in Ealing. Whereabouts are you ?

The main trouble with London is that you can be in approximately the same bit as lots of other people and still be a bloody long way away :(

When are you going to come and visit the shop? If you're at Reading mainline station, we are directly across the road....

Ooh, hello, I'm supposed to be taking you out for lunch, aren't I!?

Will stick my nose in the shop in the next few weeks, and we can compare notes on lunchtime availability :)

Hopefully you'll have found someone by the time I'm scheduled to back from Addis Ababa (February 2010), but if not, I'll be sure to enquire...

Ooh, are you returning to live in the UK then ?

Hope my postcard arrived with you OK, I have a terrible distrust of addresses where I don't really understand the format...

I *hope* to return to the UK to live, but this is dependent on tricksy things like visas, work permits, and cooperative prospective employers. If not, there's always California or in extremis Hawaii, so I can't really complain.

And yes, you postcard did arrive - thank you very much, it was greatly appreciated. I'll try to send you another, although maybe when I'm next out of Ethiopia to improve the chances of post getting through.

Hope your move goes well! As a young lady from Ealing, you can probably expect to find yourself in a lot more limericks than hitherto.
