A quick test. Read the question below. Then (and only then) click on the cut and read the poll question within.

What do you think of Mr Brown today?

[Poll #1455652]

I'm just curious.

I assumed you meant Gordon, but Paddington's host and Quentin Tarantino also sprang to mind.

Footnote to my response: I'd normally expect to see him called "Brown" (with no "Mr") if no first name was used. Consequently, whilst Gordon was my first thought your wording also alerted me to potential ambiguity.

I tickied option 5, but my actual thoughts were more towards "I wonder if she means Gordon, or some other Brown?" - so halfway between options 1 and 5

As with above - the instruction to actually read the question did leave me wondering what other possibilities than Gordon would have been (or done) something newsworthy. Since I live in a world that mostly only impinges on the news when it relates to boardgames these days, I failed to seriously find anyone else in a ten second consideration before hitting the link.

I assumed Gordon, but also correctly assumed the question would ask about that assumption.

In the absence of any other context I'd assume Gordon, but with the background knowldge that my assumption could be wrong.

I did like the book he (Derren) wrote, very interesting. His TV shows I find a bit dull in as much as he does something inexplicable but not particularly showy. For instance being able to guess what tune someone was thinking of just by making them imagine it in their head. No I can't explain how he did it, but when you come down to it, I've just watched two men staring at each other for a few minutes before one of them names a piece of music, and the other sputters in shock. It's not very interesting to watch. If he explained how he did it afterwards then I'd be an avid fan, but otherwise it's just dull - if inexplicable - TV.

I thought you meant our beloved PM, because for once he's "top-of-mind" because in his announcement about Mr Turing, he has done something almost right for a change.
I thought you might be asking about that, or testing whether people had heard the news yet.

I just read your later post about Mr. Turing, which may have informed my perceptions.
