Hmm. If I go to the BBC's US Election Map (and who hasn't, this morning?) and click on a state, my browser stops responding to keyboard shortcuts. Why would that be ? (I'm using Firefox 3)

I presume whatever cleverness is used to render the map is trapping keyboard events, but I've no idea why it would do that.

I think because it's Flash. I've had it on other pages too with Flash (can't think of any examples off the top of my head)

Yeah, I've not programmed flash but you can control it with keyboard so it has to trap stuff. I assume there probably is a way to pass on the keyboard presses if you don't want them or something but yeah, if flash has focus it will munch on keyboard presses.

Ctrl-T, Ctrl-W, Ctrl-C, Ctrl-R all work fine for me (also using FF3). What shortcuts are you seeing not working?

All them ones when the map has focus.

Ooh, ah, yes. That would be me not reading the post properly. I think that's pretty standard though with Flash isn't it?

It might be - I try to avoid Flash, so may just not have noticed before.
