Do not attempt to use the A40 in Oxfordshire. It's shut between j7 and j5. Obviously you don't find this out until you're on the sliproad :(

Er, yes, M40.

I'd left Oxford on the A40, and hit the queues on the strange vestigial bit of M40 which goes from the A40 to the motorway proper. The thing about that bit of road is that you can see the horrible horror of the the stationay M40 but have no options on avoiding it :(

Just one little sign before the junction for the services and I could have taken a different route... and avoided spending 4 hours getting from my house to j6.

Ironically, as I arrived at j6 (j7 is off-only), the shut motorway reopened and I drove along it.

Nah, going in the opposite direction by train tomorrow morning. Was supposed to be going to Ash's to pick stuff up this afternoon :(
