At the second day of Harvest Festival, there was a band I'd heard of. A band that lots of people have heard of: The Magic Numbers. Headlining, it might have been expected that they would have blown all the other, lesser known, acts off the stage. As it happened, they didn't. They were good, but not noticeably of a higher standard than plenty of the other acts.

Sunday's Harvest did feature a couple of acts which were what I'd originally expected: stuff that noodled vaguely in the background, but was neither brilliant nor particularly interesting. However, the opening act on the main stage was staggeringly good.

The Long Insiders are a four-piece featuring the long-thought-dead remnants of Thurman (who they don't sound anything like). They made me think of Gretschen Hofner, and ChrisC maintains that they sound like Lodger. If those two rather obscure comparisons don't help, I'd recommend checking them out at either livemusic.fm or myspace (or both, since they had different songs uploaded at each).

According to atomic-london, "The Long Insiders aim to make music for Spies visiting a David Lynch film set to see Polly Harvey and Nick Cave sing!" How could you resist ?

I was also curious this morning about the .fm domain name so beloved of internet radio, so went to look it up. It belongs geographically to the Federated States of Micronesia, in case you didn't know.
