I have just received the weirdest LJ comment I've ever seen. It's on this thread:

http://venta.livejournal.com/269155.html

It looks like the sort of cobbled-together bilge that might feature in the body of spam email to try and fool Bayesian filters, but I'm baffled as to what it's doing on my LJ.

I know one of the people listed in that mess. But it's a common name so perhaps I don't after all...

I definitely know one of the people (who's listed twice, ish). Don't think of it as being that common a name, but I suppose it could be coincidence.

It's not coincidence. She has written about this loon on her own LJ a few times now. You've got the comment because she's on your friends list, I'd bet.

Here (now with correct link!)

That post was made in May 2007!!! This nutjob is still spamming people about his obsession with the phrase?

Or maybe he wound up a spider/robot and set it spamming people for him.

His mad-loon webpage seems to have disappeared but I'd bet he's still doing it himself. Mad loons tend to favour the personal touch...

Interesting. I do actually remember reading that at the time, now.

He seems to have veered off from complaining about use of the name, and just gone for generalised ranting.

Oh no, he is still complaining about the name. I find that kind of prose so hard to read that I'd missed it.

I guess it might not be that common a name but it's not so unusual it couldn't be duplicated.

Does the IP address help any?

It doesn't help me, beyond letting me find out that Time Warner Telecom supply him with it.

My knowledge of IP address diganostics is limited, though - having tried whois and dig I'm out of options.

Sorry! :-(

Looks like a few people on my flist got rubbish from the M1n15try of Dr34m5 chap today. I had rather hoped he had drowned in his own lunatic bile by now, but sadly it appears not.

No need to apologise - it quite livened up my day. I appreciate it's probably distressing having your attempts to bring about the fall of the prophet constantly exposed like this, but from an observer's point of view it's anthropologically rather interesting :)

There is a theory that at least some spam is actually sent by deeply confused aliens trying to send messages through our global communications network, which they have totally failed to understand.

I never said it was a good theory, mind.
