A decree went out from Caesar Augustus
Dec. 15th, 2006 09:03 amI'm posting to LJ from work, which I shouldn't be, but I uncovered a Great Truth while listening to bits of Classic FM during my drive to work this morning and thought I'd share it.
I believe standard theology would have you believe that Augustus Caesar called a census and required that each man return to the town where he was born to be counted. Accordingly, Joseph travelled to Bethlehem and Jesus was born there, in order that the prophecy made in the book of Micah would be fulfilled.
However, Caesar knew what he was about. The reason Joseph and Mary slogged half way across Judea was actually because Nazareth just doesn't rhyme with Jerusalem. The Christmas carol writers for the next two millennia would have been up the creek.
