Yesterday (during my performance review at work), one of our management types came out with the best mixed metaphor I've heard in ages:
"When you're inside a body you can see the liver and the heart and the kidney, and when you're outside you see the body as a whole and can't see the liver and the heart and the kidney, but when you're inside you're at the coalface."
