Just in case anyone was wondering... I ate'nt dead.

Last week was the scheduled holiday in Whitby for the folk week. Since (for the first time ever) I was part of a booked dance team rather than a paying punter, I was much busier (and ended up much tireder) than usual. Dance displays, a parade or two, running a workshop... I assume there was a festival going on somewhere, but I didn't actually get to see much of it.

The week before that involved me heading rapidly and unexpectedly north following the news that my dad had been rushed into intensive care following a heart attack. All is well (or getting well) now, since he's home again and making good progress.

Which is why I've been offline/ignoring your emails/ignoring your messages/uncontactable of late. Whitby is shockingly short on unsecured wireless networks. Apologies to all the people who should have got postcards, sticks of rock, and so on.

Designated Heroes of the Immediate Past are, accordingly: the staff of the Coronary Care Unit in Scarborough (my parents were already on holiday in Whitby, so Dad ended up in hospital there), Carole and Keith in Scarborough for putting my mum up at no notice, and Sue who manages the flats my parents stay in in Whitby for letting me come and go at all sorts of crazy times and generally being a good sort.

Thanks - he's now well enough to grumble darkly that his current regime excludes pork pies and pints.

Ouch. A cruel regime indeed.

Remind me never to have a heart attack !

(And best wishes to your Dad.)

Thank you. Despite the terrible heart-problem history of the rest of his family, it was still something of a surprise.

You were on my postcard list, by the way, though I actually fear that I don't have your new address (or have mislaid it :( ). Could you mail me it some time when you've a spare moment, please?

Address is on a post here which you should be able to read. If you can't then let me know and I'll play with the permissions!

Thanks - recovery propects are quite good because, unlike most of the mid-60s blokes in the cardiac unit, he's not overweight, doesn't smoke much, doesn't drink much, and is generally pretty fit and healthy.

Thanks! -- actually slightly advancedly, it's tomorrow!

(I have to admit I was reminded about yours by this useful page, rather than actually properly remembering it and all...)

Ah! You're the mystery person with the 6th September birthday. That's been vaguely bugging me all week :)

Have a good 'un.

Sounds like a hectic couple of weeks. I hope your father continues to recover and the terrible gap in his life left by the pork pies can be filled. Someone has probably tried to make a diet/low fat one somewhere...

Yeah, but I bet it'd be foul :) OK, you'd think it was foul anyway, but I reckon it'd be nothing like a real pork pie.

Is that Sue from Shoreline? They've always been fab to us :-)

Glad to hear your Dad is recovering well.

Thanks :)

And no, it's Sue from Seaview Properties - which is bascially one of the big houses on Royal Crescent (the curvey row of houses above the Spa).

Yeep (this is [livejournal.com profile] cuthbertcross btw, blokey forgot to log out). Very glad he's recovering.

BTW, I didn't say this, but the *occasional* small pork pie is allowed on a once-in-a-while basis as a treat - anyone who says they stick to these diets 100% is lying. And the psychological benefit from the occasional pork pie should not be underestimated!

Have relayed comments about pies, to much rejoicing. However, I think my dad's intending to be pretty careful and strict with the diet until he passes the 6 week mark or wherever it is he's allowed out into the outside world again.
