Wanna disco? Wanna see me disco?
Apr. 1st, 2005 10:10 amAs stolen from
satyrica, it's a musical sheep.
ONE: Pick 10 fave musicians/ bands.
TWO: Post them and see who can guess which song of each musician's is your favorite
THREE: Once someone guesses right, bold that row and include your favorite song (it may be a 'tune' as it has no words in some cases, at least not originally)
1) Leonard Cohen - Everybody Knows
2) Radiohead - Anyone Can Play Guitar
3) The Jam - Down In The Tube Station At Midnight
4) Idlewild - When I Argue I See Shapes
5) Belle & Sebastian
6) Mercury Rev - Goddess On A Hiway
7) Muse - Plug-In Baby
8) Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah
9) Death in Vegas - Aisha
10) Joe Jackson
(That was actually surprisingly difficult - there are remarkably few bands for whom I can define an absolute "favourite" track. Apologies if you're not familiar with any of the chosen artists - and I think there's only one where my favourite is "the obvious one". I may yet be shown to be wrong there, though.)
Comments:
1) Guessed by
secutatrix. This is only just a favourite, it has to fight off stiff competition from the rest of the album (I'm Your Man).
2) Guessed by
smiorgan. So, sue, me, I'm a cretin and I liked Radiohead in the days when they were a jangly-guitarred rock band.

4) Guessed by
metame. But only, only just my favourite by a gnat's nadger. For further details, come back later this afternoon, when I think we might be boogying to
zotz's incorrect guess.

8) Guessed by
olethros. This was the one I considered "the obvious ones" :)

Update: The missing two were:
5) Belle & Sebastian - The Boy With The Arab Strap, which actually, I might have thought would be "the obvious one". Though quite how a band who appear to be so nice and polite that you could take them home for Sunday tea came to know what an Arab strap was, never mind being willing to sing about it in public, is a bit of a mystery.
10) Joe Jackson - I'm The Man. I've no idea how well known this song is, even among people who know a bit of Joe Jackson, but it's great. Any song which contains the line "Skateboards - I almost made them respectable" is fine with me.
