They don't write them like that any more

How come I've never noticed this before ?

If you need a friend, I'm sailing right behind
Like a bridge over trouble waters

You what ?

If bridges are noted for one thing it's for not sailing anywhere.

It's like: "You're so vain, you probably think this song about you."

It's obviously about whoever it is that thinks it is about them, and therefore an abominable metric of vanity.

Thankyou.

The song 'Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad' has now left my head.

On the other hand...

You're so vain... la la la la la la la la la la...

Johnny Cash - The Man Comes Around

But even the mighty Mr Cash can't render Danny Boy listenable :(

I think you're missing either an 'and' or some punctuation.

Hmm. Googling for lyrics:

If you need a friend
I'm sailing right behind.
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind.

That's better. Still doesn't make a whole lot of sense, mind.

ISTR that Paul Simon mentioned somewhere that the 'Sail on, silver girl' verse was an afterthought that didn't work as well as the others.

No shit.

Whaddya say?

Nothing much, largely because I misread "Plan VagiPirate" and got hopelessly derailed trying to fit that into your scheme.

Irrelevantly: if you're not reading oxgoths right at this minute, where on earth has the Masquerade ball site gone too ? The link seems to go straight to a private blog sort of thing.

clear your cache and try again - is it working now?

I'm a programmer, not a muppet, y'know. I tried that one already :)

S'ok. Expecting me to have forgotten the obvious is probably a safe bet most of the time ;)

can I be a vagi-pirate when I grow up...?

I have not yet thought of a good answer to this. I'm deeply disappointed in myself :(

True, but some do trundle.

And, much as I hate to suggest that there's anything interesting in Middlesbrough, the Transporter Bridge" (http://www.nhi.clara.net/oldy017.htm) does kind of sail a bit.

I can't find a better photo, sadly. And a few online articles about the bridge suggest that the moving platform part is 160ft up or something. Which I'm sure is wrong, I think it "floats" on the river ([livejournal.com profile] jiggery_pokery, any offers?)

Chicago, as I've been known to say, has fifty moveable bridges. Fifty! Most tilt, some swivel and I think a couple rise, but few actually sail.

You mean, on a different boat crowding your stern, and shouting abuse at you because you're blocking all their wind? Some friend.

What's the URL of ITEM-A (the International Taskforce for the Elimination of Metaphor Abuse)?

Top of the transporter bridge structure is 160ft; the transporting bit is only feet above the (alledgedly clean and sparkling these days) Tees.
