Well... I'm definitely a Dave Gorman fan. I thought the book was really funny, although there actually isn't anything in your review with which I disagree, except that I wasn't disappointed. One of my friends who borrowed it from me and read it thought it was vaguely amusing but not compelling because both the protagonists were a bit of a prat!
Did you see the TV series? That is far funnier than the book. The Astrology Experiment wasn't nearly as good.
Re: Harry Potter - I know the book quite well, and due to being severely disappointed by the first film, am not in a hurry to see the second. What I was planning to do was to rent it on DVD when it's out that way. Related embarrassing admission is that I know the book well enough to be pretty sure I can avoid the dubious scenes that way ;)
