If I switch as soon as Coldplay begins, I'll possibly find something better on another channel. Which will end in .35 seconds and begin playing me something equally dire. Forcing me to change channel. Rinse. Repeat.
The only sensible way to ensure a reasonable amount of goodness is to stay in the same place. Assuming, of course, that you were on a station with a decent playlist in the first place.
