Last year I was diagnosed with arthritis in my fingers. Various blood tests showed it wasn't one of the scary auto-immune kinds, and x-rays revealed no damage, so I have non-specific pain in my finger joints which is therefore diagnosed as arthritis. The leading drug to treat this does wonders for my fingers, but makes me quite ill. Accordingly, I have decided to tolerate painful fingers.

Except of late, I'd noticed that they weren't particularly bad. Hardly hurt at all, in fact. In the past few days, though, I've noticed that they've suddenly been painful again.

This morning, I twigged that my knuckles getting bad seems to correspond neatly with the recent damp, drizzly weather we've been having.

Apparently I actually am feeling the damp weather in my bones. Coming soon: how nothing is like it used to be, how all modern music just sounds like noise, and why I am about to get a blue rinse.

Conversation outside the machine room: "It's just like a club - there's flashing lights, lasers and you have to shout to make yourself heard above the filthy racket that's just noise."

I already feel the word "dubstep" fits nicely into "That godawful [...] racket".

Interesting. I have one finger who's joint flares up severely once in a while but, thankfully, not often. I never thought of a weather trigger. On the down side, it would be a bummer to look at the forecast and know your hands were going to turn on you next Tuesday. Now we know why so many old people are cranky!

Ouch. Is it all about the weather, or other triggers eg foods?

You've let me down today. When I wrote my sleep log, I expected you to be the person who knew who I'd parodied. A virtual frilly dress could be yours...

Lots of modern music is actually sounding like noise to me, thanks to deteriorating hearing and increasing processing issues, but the much scarier phenomenon is that music I used to loathe is sounding quite good to me now! (90s dance music, mostly.)

If you are going to get a blue rinse, you should have a mohican to match.

Ah the joys of aging!

Try a teaspoonful of cinnamon a day, I have mine in yoghurt and it really helps ( it's a highly effective anti inflammatory)

Gosh. Is there not a topical version of naproxen like there is ibuprofen?

Sorry to hear about the pain and the crappy drugs. If it gets too much it may be worth investigating alternative drugs, each type can cause a different reaction depending on the person so it may be you're suited to a different altermative. On the upside at least you don't live in Scotland where it seems almost permanently damp!
