Next door to my station, a former sandwich shop has been turning into something else. Today it's got its pink-and-black fascia up. It's called "Afters", and helpfully lists what it will purvey:

Coffee
Gelato
Crepes
Frozen yogurt
Cold stone
Waffles

Err.... a nice cold stone for afters, anyone?

(I'm familiar with places advertising "hot stone" pizzas or steaks, but I have absolutely no idea what they mean here...)

Your Honour, I understand the term to mean a method of preparing ice-cream desserts in which confectionery that might under some circumstances be referred to as "toppings" is mixed in with the ice-cream upon the refrigerated earthenware of the title, in order that it might be presented with uniform consistency throughout.

Really? Well. There's a thing. Obviously the north is far in advance of that London in the frozen dessert department (or is this a thing you know because you consort with Americans?)

Once Afters is open I shall have to sample it's cold stone wares.

Yes, this; we have Marble Slab here, which is basically the same thing; they have a chilled slab of marble, you choose your ice-cream flavour and your "mix-ins", and they mix them in on the slab before serving it to you.
It's lovely.

I recently learned what a "mix-in" is... there is a concept called a mix-in in object-oriented programming, and when I enquired as to its name, was told it was named after the ice cream :)

Well I have learned something today! And shall seek to impart this knowledge to all who have the misfortune to cross my path.

And ohhhh Crepes and icecreams.. forbidden fruits are always so sweet!

Home :)

Also, have you met Creams, which is now open approximately opposite the town hall? If not, we should go. Full of ice-creamy goodness.

(Also, just... everything. I suck.)

On my way to work I noticed a coffee shop with a sign outside that said "Yes, we are just a coffee shop now :)" I have no idea what they were before.
