It's Friday! It's about three o'clock! It's time to Boogie At Your Desk!

Friday afternoons need a little something. I think they need a Top Tune. Something to make you shuffle in your seat and, if possible, Boogie At Your Desk.

I'm not claiming that any track provided to enable At-Desk Boogying is one of the world's best or most profound pieces of music. It will, however, be a tune which makes me smile, and which has at some stage made me surreptitiously Boogie At My Desk.

Desks are not compulsory, of course. Feel free to boogie through your office, in your bedroom, round your lab, across your classroom, on the train - wherever you find yourself on a Friday afternoon.

If you like the track, go out and buy the album it belongs to - I'll try and recommend a suitable CD to purchase for any BAYD track.

I can't help noticing that - despite all this talk of Helen Love - there's a whole lot of no boogying going on round here. Sorry about that, folks.

So today I offer you Malcolm Middleton. I can't honestly remember how I encountered the gentleman; I'm inclined to blame zotz, but that might just be because I hold him generically responsible for all Scottish bands. Mr Middleton was one of the people involved in Arab Strap, but I'm not honestly sure I knew that until I read it on Wikipedia just now.

I have the albums Sleight of Heart and Into The Woods (from which No Modest Bear comes), and I'd wholeheartedly recommend both of them. He's good live, too.

If you like No Modest Bear, then you could try out Follow Robin Down for something a little slower, or A Happy Medium for a rather trippier sound.

Not to mention his Christmas hit We're All Going To Die - I mean, seriously! A deeply bile-filled song featuring Kim Noble dressed as Santa Claus, what more could you actually want for the festive season?

I dunno, if I'm going to try and hold you accountable for an entire class of bands, it could be much worse. I quite like a lot of Scots bands.
