So rove away, you raven girls

Well... it's a long time since we've had a Friday t-shirt amnesty, isn't it? So, tell me what you're wearing...

I appreciate that these days, lots of people are too grown-up, professional or oppressed by their employers to be wearing t-shirts on Fridays. Some of you may be none of those things, but choose not to wear t-shirts. So I'll settle for whatever it is you're wearing on your top half.

I've got my beautiful, brand new Hedingham Fair silver, gold and black "Three Ravens" t-shirt on.

Now, I was going to (a) link to a picture of my t-shirt on their website and (b) recommend Hedingham Fair, but their website turns out to be really horrible to use. Everything's there, but very hard to find (mostly due to rather non-orthogonal classification). Also, the Three Ravens design is new and doesn't seem to have made it up there yet. Or into their catalogue. You'll just have to trust me that it's beautiful.

Anyway! Horrible website notwithstanding, Hedingham Fair sell some lovely things. T-shirts with folky customs, instruments or pagan designs on them plus a wide variety of other stuff. Possibly of interest to some of you is that in addition to a large selection of Christmas cards they sell cards for Yule, the Winter Solstice, Imbolc... all manner of things. Plus birthdays, and blank-for-your-message, and so on.

They're worth checking out. If the website is a bit un-navigable, try downloading their catalogue. Or you could go and find them at a festival.

A turquoise strappy top with a cross-over front and a sort-of vine pattern. It's too hot for a tshirt, but the one I had on last is Abed and Troy [icon] as Calvin and Hobbes.

One of my colleagues seems to have a range of similar shirts - The Doctor and Amy Pond, characters from Limbo, etc.

I'm only just warm enough in my t-shirt, but maybe our aircon is a bit fierce.
<peers out of window>
It doesn't look warm, but that's caught me out several times recently.

Polo shirt. Burning Skeletal Monks FTW: http://www.southoverbs.com/merchandise/merchandiseclothing.html (E.N. t-shirt yesterday...)

Should I infer from that that you live in Sussex these days? Or just that you like setting fire to stuff?

In Highgate these days, so the latter. Advance! http://www.southoverbs.com/history.html

An actual T-Shirt, it's a Green Day T-shirt (murky green) with a black and white silhouetted topless dude with wings

Black button shirt, as usual.

Oh dear, this means describing it. Um.
My green Desigual top/T-shirt. The one with all the green and the sparkly shoulder and gold stitches. That one :-)

I'm not sure I've made its acquaintance ;)

A monumentally old and faded Good Vibrations T-shirt. Fairly sure I bought it at their shop in SF and that would have been, hm, probably knocking on twenty years ago ;) It will probably get changed out of when I go and pick G up from the airport in a few hours.

Dark blue 'Red Sea Divers' T-shirt, with the 'Red Sea Divers' logo where a pocket might be on a shirt. On the back a fin identification guide to the larger red sea marine life, includes a diver.

[identity profile] venta.livejournal.com 2013-08-30 02:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Surely you only need to be able to split fins into two categories... "pretty" and "run away"!?

I'm afraid 'dangerous' and 'run [or swim] away' are not logically connected in many divers' minds. I'm pretty sure I won't be the first one eaten as I'm usually moving at speed in the opposite direction to the rest of the crowd when danger appears.

A long (to mid-calf) sleeveless white dress with big purple flowers on it, and a green long sleeved shirt knotted at the front. I visited a Georgian monastery and church today and women are not allowed in unless they have a skirt and cover their shoulders. Men have to wear long trousers and cover their shoulders too. Bizzarely, long baggy trousers are not acceptable for women but a miniskirt would be fine!

One of my set of "random Engrish from Japan" tshirts; this one's grey with brown text, and says "Enjoy Out -- KNOW AND BURN" before seguing into a little essay on the nature of Truth and finishing up with "A vacation is the decisive way to good health".

My t-shirt reads "IT Service Desk
www.manchester.ac.uk/servicedesk
0161 3065544"

Work freebie!
I don't have to wear work related t-shirts, but it saved me going to the effort of working out if any other tshirt was work suitable (eg not a band t-shirt as that isn't allowed and not one with a dalek on as Dawn has Dalek-phobia etc).

Today I'm wearing my Stuff is Awesome t-shirt from Jon Rosenberg, creator of Goats (which I cannot link because the site's been taken down) and Scenes from a Multiverse.

Black t-shirt with a t-rex and 'om nom nom' on it, in honour of a trip to the Natural History Museum this evening :)

Nice :)

Oh all right then. I'm wearing an old, plain black t-shirt with white stitching on each hem. It makes an, er, 'stylish set' of pyjamas with the chavvy trousers I've got on. Black tracky bottoms with a double white stripe down each leg.

My excuses (as if needed) for dressing like this are that it's 6.30am and I've a guest in the house. A guest who happens to have great taste in cartoon t-shirts. When we first met, she was working in a wholefood shop and wearing a t-shirt with a selection of dog breeds. I purchased lentils and made a friend for life. Last night she wore this http://www.banksytshirts.org/womens/tshirts/chickenandtheeggwomenstshirt.html Rather her than me, to tell the truth. Jokey or slogany t-shirts aren't my thing.

Why am I not surprised that you like Hedingham Fair? I'm in love with their hedgerow earrings http://www.hedinghamfair.co.uk/hedgerow_earrings.htm Don't wear them to work because they don't blend in with my suits and pinstripes but in my unprofessional life, my ears sprout conkers, blackberries or apple cores. It may be time to purchase another pair. I actually wrote to Colin Cater of that company, requesting hedgehog earrings. He said he'd ask his artist to get inspired. If hedgehogs turn up in the catalogue in future, you heard it here first.

The hedgerow earrings are fabulous but, as you say about the t-shirts, not really my thing. I didn't spot any hedgehogs on the stall this year, but do hope they come snuffling along soon.

I do wear jokey or slogany t-shirts a lot, but still think there are many which I see which I wouldn't wear. Often they have something funny on them, but I think it's only funny once - certainly not something I want to have to look at time after time. And sadly many t-shirts with writing on them don't seem to have been designed with the female form in mind (or possibly they're designed to encourage intent peering, which I usually choose not to do).

[identity profile] sammason.livejournal.com 2013-09-03 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
Yes it's the funny-once aspect that puts me off. The t-shirt is used as a throwaway item, too much in my opinion. I think of cotton farmers, pesticides, fossil fuels, water, all the other resources that go into a t-shirt. Workers' rights too. None of this stops me buying t-shirts and I'm not at all strict about choosing the ones with 'ethical' labels on, but it does put me off most jokey slogans. Also they don't suit my body shape or my personal 'style'.

Late to the party on this one, but:

Black girl-fit Nightmare On Elm Street shirt with the Freddy rhyme in small print on the front ("One, two, Freddy's coming for you...") and the film title and release date on the back. Sadly a promo from the remake and not the original, but still pretty cool.

On Friday I was sporting a sweat soaked white shirt with light blue and brown pinstripes.

Sounds hideous. Looks ok.

On Friday I was wearing a new t-shirt for the first time! – Four Spirits. Which is still on sale, I see.
