It's Friday! It's about three o'clock! It's time to Boogie At Your Desk!

Friday afternoons need a little something. I think they need a Top Tune. Something to make you shuffle in your seat and, if possible, Boogie At Your Desk.

I'm not claiming that any track provided to enable At-Desk Boogying is one of the world's best or most profound pieces of music. It will, however, be a tune which makes me smile, and which has at some stage made me surreptitiously Boogie At My Desk.

Desks are not compulsory, of course. Feel free to boogie through your office, in your bedroom, round your lab, across your classroom, on the train - wherever you find yourself on a Friday afternoon.

If you like the track, go out and buy the album it belongs to - I'll try and recommend a suitable CD to purchase for any BAYD track.

The link to the mp3 will expire at some point in the future.

Today you are invited to Boogie At Your Desk to a guest tune from [livejournal.com profile] ceb:

The Savoy Ballroom - The Tale of the Graveyard Waltz [link to mp3 download expired, but YouTube link may still be active]

I hadn't heard of The Savoy Ballroom, but CEB's recommendations are usually worth a listen so downloaded Roustabout, and have been rather enjoying it. The only thing I have against The Tale of the Graveyard Waltz is that it's not a waltz. But world of popular music is pretty low on 3/4 tunes.

It's got real live instruments, and engaging lyrics, and catchy tunes, and nice walking bass. Good for fans of, say, Bitter Ruin. Or people who like knitting Actually, I think the male singer's voice sounds exactly like Voltaire's, but don't tell CEB that because I don't think she'll like it.

This is the last of the guest-recommendations for BAYD, so if you've still got a brilliant dance-along song up your sleeve, please do share it.

Actually they have two male singers ;-)

They're fun to watch live, lots of swapping around of instruments between songs.

I'm glad you like Roustabout; I keep ending up with this song and Sinful Man on repeat play. Apparently they're working on an album, which I eagerly await.

PS I guess I'm disqualified from the lyric kudo for this one? ;-)

Ooh, not bad! As well as 3/4, the world needs more good accordion tunes.

but don't tell CEB that because I don't think she'll like it

So I probably shouldn't mention that I think they sound like a sleepy version of The Tiger Lillies then? ;-)

I've no idea - I don't know what she thinks of The Tiger Lillies!

The world of popular music is indeed distressingly low on 3/4, but Clutch's American Sleep remains the most awesome waltz in rock, as long as you ignore the early verses that go round in 11 and the gloriously misleading decoy that is the first 34 seconds. It's the first 34 seconds of the album and I think they wanted to give people a fright.

(I never boogie at my desk at the allotted boogieing time, because I probably spend less than half my working time at my desk anyway and also don't check LJ during the day, but I frequently catch up on these later, and then usually don't comment, but often like them anyway.)

As it says in the rules, desks are not compulsory :) Though I appreciate that boogying as you drive to remote farms could be a bit impractical. Boogying is encouraged at other times, though - I think [livejournal.com profile] undyingking often pops over here for a little boogie on a Monday morning. But I'm glad to hear you usually enjoy them!

Currently listening to American Sleep. It hasn't got waltzy yet :)
