Things I saw on my way to work this morning...

A bearded man with a fantastically tall, turquoise turban. I wondered if he gets Marge Simpson jokes a lot.

A girl with parti-coloured blonde and shocking-orange hair, her whole upper arm covered with a colourful tattoo of a cartoon robot. Are the colours of tattoos improving, suddenly?

A man walking a Samoyed. Even on the shady side of the street it looked hot, its pink tongue lolling.

Two little girls, limboing back and forth under the barriers that kept the station ticket queue in line. They looked outrageously French and - when they spoke - turned out to be French.

OK, not quite that outrageously ;)

There's a particular look that I associate with French kids - quite tanned skin, and sandy-to-brown hair. Not sure I can describe it very well! I don't think everyone French looks like that, but pretty much everyone who looks like that is French!

I don't think so. She's too pale - though maybe that's just what happens when you transplant people from the south of France to the north-east of England.

Then again, it's a look I associate with children and youngish teenagers, so maybe Flossie has grown out of it!

Are the colours of tattoos improving, suddenly?

Fairly new tattoos have looked colourful for quite a while, but I'm never sure how long that lasts.

A friend of mine has green and purple flowers twining round one leg, and they still seem to be quite vibrantly-coloured after 5+ years. Then again, I think they did get re-inked around a year after they were originally done (the tattooist insisted on giving them a "going over" when my friend went back for another tattoo).
