It's, er, probably Friday! It's about three o'clock! It's time to Boogie At Your Desk!

Friday afternoons need a little something. I think they need a Top Tune. Something to make you shuffle in your seat and, if possible, Boogie At Your Desk.

I'm not claiming that any track provided to enable At-Desk Boogying is one of the world's best or most profound pieces of music. It will, however, be a tune which makes me smile, and which has at some stage made me surreptitiously Boogie At My Desk.

Desks are not compulsory, of course. Feel free to boogie through your office, in your bedroom, round your lab, across your classroom, on the train - wherever you find yourself on a Friday afternoon.

If you like the track, go out and buy the album it belongs to - I'll try and recommend a suitable CD to purchase for any BAYD track.

The link to the mp3 will expire at some point in the future.

Today you are invited to Boogie At Your Desk to:

Garbage - When I Grow Up [link to mp3 download expired, YouTube link may still be active]

Is anyone actually at a desk today? I guess if you're providing cover, or need to answer a phone, or keep a shop open, you might be. Or if you're self-employed. If so, then my apologies as the rest of the world slacks off shamelessly. I am boogying on the M1 at present.

Last Friday, just after posting my BAYD track, I popped Version 2.0 on the stereo (I was working at home). I'd say it's an album I know well, but it turns out it's one I haven't actually heard in years. When I Grow Up came on and I realised it had become one of those odd tracks where you know all the words... but only as they show up. I could sing along, but I couldn't tell you the next line.

I knocked off working, and danced round the living room for three minutes. If anyone wonders yes, when I say that, I do actually mean it.

I'm a big fan of Garbage, but I think I'd forgotten.

You reminded me I'm a fan too - though I don't own as much as I should!

And I did indeed boogie at my desk... at home. :)

I am at my desk! – and had a little boogie, why not, it's Christmas. I was quite a fan back in the day but, like you, they drifted off my memory radar a bit. Thanks for the reminder!

I had a sort-of-similar-sort-of-opposite experience listening to Version 2.0 earlier this year, as homework for going to see them in Wolverhampton (or some similar godforsaken Midlands town which is much further away than I think it is). I'd have sworn that I knew the first album very well, and the second not at all, but playing it, I knew an awful lot of the words - like you, just as they came up, and not before.

The two albums need to go back on my ipod. I do really enjoy both of them, but overlistened a while back, and when I ran out of space on those two were shelved back to the itunes library.
