Hello LJ. Are you looking for a way to waste time today?

You are?

Last night, Sally asked me whether I'd seen the Look for Longer posters on the Tube.

I had not.

Shame, she said, she couldn't solve the last few.

Eh?

Look, she said, it's online. It's a big picture[*] containing various images designed to represent Tube stations. The online version is clickable, and will tell you when you've solved them correctly.

Which explains why, at twenty to two this morning, Sally and I were sitting on the sofa with glasses of wine (and a cat, who was not helpful) shouting tube stations at each other.

You can find the puzzle here.

Warning: at least some of the ones I've found so far are a bit tenuous. I accept no responsibility. And if anyone can explain Hainault to me, that'd be lovely.

[*] Interestingly, as soon as I saw it, I said "I bet that's something to do with Virgin". It reminded me very much of a similar scene containing images representing bands which they produced a few years ago.

Hm, I'm up to 51, and running out of clue!

I'm deliberately not looking at it today, as I do actually have to get work done. I was only really looking at the ones Sally hadn't got, last night!

I *think* it's a sounds-like hay-nought and that's supposed to be a zero in the middle of the hay bale - that was my justification anyway,

I did get them all in the end, but needed a bit of help googling to work out that the rabbit wasn't in a *warren* but there was another word for a rabbit hole which was a bit like a tube station, and it helped a lot once I was using a list of tube stations which included the DLR.

I still think the one for the nuns was a bit rubbish.

But... don't you pronounce the 'L' in Hay-nolt? I think I do (and I think Mrs Tube Announcer does too).
I did consider hay-nought but decided that was too rubbish.

I still haven't solved the nuns (at least, we hadn't last night and I've resolutely not looked again today!)

Had you already seen it, or did you solve them all that quickly? If the latter, I'm impressed!

I think I spent much of Friday afternoon peering at it, having seen it on twitter - and like I say I did cheat a little at the bitter end. I seem to have thrown away my piece of paper where I'd scribbled down the last 15 or so I was stuck on and gradually ticked them off. That definitely helped though.

I'm afraid I've no idea how Hainault is actually pronounced :)

I was once on the Central Line with a very cockney announcer who declared what sounded like, 'this train is for anal'.

*giggle*

Maybe it's a slurred sound-a-like for hay-on-hill then?

Well, I suppose it's better to designate a train rather than a random approach which leaves people feeling they've either missed out or got more than they bargained for...

I've got 13 left to go now! I'm very annoyed with the gate on top of the building, because it isn't the obvious answer, and I can't think past the obvious answer!

Yes, I wanted that to be high-gate too. What is it next to?

Ah, got it! I was thinking of those two as separate ones!

Yeah, I did this, spent an entire train journey to Wakefield and home again doing this. I think a couple were pretty dodgy though - the one with the mouse, I remember. By time I / we got to the end when we had about fifteen or so left, we got out the tube map and still struggled to work out some of them.

Simon got that one because my ability to identify the other object was zero...

I am still stuck on;
The mouse/rat with the cheese
The crushed drink can
The fountain that has something in it
The split drum
The looter with the TV with string around it
The firepit
The glue
The fish
The cake
The dog with the green patch (who may go with the cake?)
The dead pig
The footballer

I shall do some packing and see if any of them come to me!

Ok...I can give you some hints with some of those if you are still stuck! Shame on you over the cake one though...

The dog one may require a piece of information that you may not know. We worked it out accidentally by trying various options, but had never heard of the word before (in the context of the clue).

That's not identical to the ones I think I'm stuck on, but there's a high crossover.

Oops, got the cake one; the dog is still bewildering me, and I think I've miscalculated something somewhere, because I can count 11 I haven't got, but it says I've got 65 out of 75 right.

Ah, and the dog one1
Which still leaves me with nine I haven't got (I figured out the footballer), even though the thingy says I've got 67. Mysterious!

The version I did had little tags on each answer so I just made sure there were none of those left when I'd finished. Not sure if you're version has the tags though!

I was stuck on those. I was very proud of getting the tv one and the drum, but I got stuck on the footballer, the dog, the mouse, the glue, the pig and the nuns. :)

The drum one just made me groan :)

Stuck now on the glue, the nuns, the lady in the wedding dress, the bar-wench, the fire, the mouse, the Manhattan skyline, the flag, and the fish.

I'm not sure how much this helps, but I found the traffic light system quite useful. So, for example, where I typed in (say) Goodge Street and it gave me a yellow light, I could then work out that it was 'something' Street.

The fire is a bit a of a 'groan' one as well. As is the bar-wench, although I liked that one. And thinking about it I can't remember the nuns or the glue one right now!!

You need Wimble and his punning skills ;)

Maybe two of pictures are actually one tube station? Fishglue Proximity, or Save Telly From Burny Hole. I'm sure they're on the DLR somewhere.

(I don't know, I haven't got 'em either!)

Yes, I think they must be; how often I've passed through Rubbishy-fountain-next-the-burst-drum on my way somewhere else in London...
